Do M-Audio Delta cards disagree with UAD-1?

I have an M-Audio Delta 44 and was just reading on a PoCo forum that they have a bad name for causing problems with the PCI PoCos.

I do have some glitching problems, not so much that I can't work but overall system performance has deteriorated since installing the UAD-1.

Sound is better of course :D

Does anyone know if the Delta is bad with the UAD-1?
Thanks.

Really I think it's down to the chipset of your motherboard also, although Universal Audio do list a motherboard compability list and other setups. In fact there's a forum on here dedicated too it.

My sound setup is an EMU 1212M, TC Powercore Element and UAD-1 and I have no problems. The poco will be detected as an I/O controller initiially for some reason. At least it did on mine.

My motherboard chipset is one of the recommended ones though the brand's a bit weird (Abit - bit of a gamer's board) It actually ran fantastic but now with the UAD I have occasional glitching. Guess I could disable the PCI soundcard, hook up my laptop's USB interface & see if that's better?

The Delta PCI audio cards, like the UAD-1 are very intolerant of any IRQ sharing whatsoever. A lot has to do with your motherboard & OS and they parlay IRQ assignments. I have a Delta 66 & (2) UAD-1 cards and whenever I have had any of those cards sharing IRQ's with each other or other devices I have had performance problems. Crackling (the snap, crackle, pop syndrome) in the audio is indicative of Delta IRQ sharing.

Are your Delta & UAD-1 card sharing IRQ's with other devices?

That's a very good point...

Here is my IRQ table..
IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 12 Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (IntelliPoint) OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 16 RADEON 8500 SERIES OK
IRQ 16 E-MU E-DSP OK
IRQ 17 OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller OK
IRQ 18 Universal Audio UAD-1 DSP card OK
IRQ 19 PowerCore/PCI OK
IRQ 20 VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller OK
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 21 VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller OK

Even though the soundcard shares the same IRQ as the RAdeon 8500 it presents no real problems for me.

I've had Delta 1010LT's in a few systems now and no problems with UAD-1s.

No sharing video, UAD, Delta each have their own IRQ.

Wonder if a total re-install of Windows would be a good thing.
(It's time for that anyway)

I've got a Delta 66, Powercore Firewire and UAD-1 all co-existing fine in my system. The Powercore has caused me problems in the past, but the UAD has been rock solid.

Depending on your motherboard, swapping the cards into different PCI slots may change the IRQs that are assigned to each one. If you can't get a stable system (with no crackles) then this is worth a try.

i used to have an Audiophile 2496 card with 3 UADS - no problems.

Recently I've replaced the 2496 with a 1010LT - still no problems.
