Drivers for X64 and UAD1

Could someone at Universal Audio support or on this forum let me know why there are no drivers available for the 64-bit version of Windows XP?

The extra memory that one can use in this version of the OS would be a tremendous advantage to those running VSTis and soft samplers etc.

Now, I absolutely love my UAD, but it and the Powercore are the only reasons I can't upgrade to this new OS.

Any news or discussion would be appreciated.

Thanks

I wrote to UA about Vista 64bit since it is what I will be using when SX4 comes out this fall. Here is what the said to me.

We are committed to supporting windows vista so there will be 64 bit drivers in the future, however at this point we don't have any timeline.

I know they are talking about Vista and not XP64 but the fact that they haven’t even started yet is disappointing.

Does having no timeline mean they haven't even started, yet?

The sorts of speculation we are able to machinate through on these boards always proves to me why some people are able to make a living playing poker or the stock market.

Assumptions, emotion, and baseless speculation will make make a man poor in these arenas. But they will make another man rich.

Anyone up for some Hold'em?

That's just my point. ;)

This is not an educated guess.

First of all, I suppose it is possible that UA has done NO work whatsoever with Vista or XP64. But it seems HIGHLY unlikely to me. Just about all hard/software vendors have MSFT subscriptions and betas sometime right after the pirates start passing them around. ;) UA is small, but they know as well as anyone that 64bit platforms are right around the corner. Also, the benefit is of high value to our community. They KNOW this.

They are just smart enough to not talk about it in specifics. It seems counter-intuitive, but it is even worse for the manufacturer out here in speculationland if they do.

But the important part is just that if all things reported are true... the statement:
We are committed to supporting windows vista so there will be 64 bit drivers in the future, however at this point we don't have any timeline.
...makes absolutly no claim that they have not begun working on them. It only says they are not going to talk about it any more than that.

well you can read it another way. When they say they have no time-line it could mean that they do not even have a starting time conceived yet.

I like the way you interpret it better though since it seems more hopeful that the drivers will make it out sooner.

i fucked up though, i went to re-read the email to see if there might be something that made things clearer and noticed that there was a disclaimer and i was not supposed to quote the email without their consent.

oops!

\"however at this point we don't have any timeline\"

actually means

\"Yes, of course we have an internal timeline! ...but we don't discuss internal stuff in public!\"
It's only a more polite way of saying it ;)

Vista is the next big thing, they'd be foolish not to have something in developement right now. They very, very surely have!

They will have drivers reay when Vista is officially released, relax 8)

I spoke with UAD support and they said they have no intention of working
on Vista drivers until Vista is released. He said they are not even considering providing XP64bit drivers. I hope that changes. I've been
playing around with Vista Beta 2 and let me tell you they have a long way to go. Looks like Vista might not be ready until Late 2007.

that is pretty stupid. part of the reason for releasing the beta is so everyone can get started now and release everything at about the same time.

I guess i read into that statement about the time line correctly :(
I am also surprised that they will not provide any XP64 drivers.

ZION i guess you have had problems with the beta? it runs great on my machine. but the most important things i need to run require drivers for my audio hardware. the sooner UA gets started the better! why make everyone wait longer :?:

Yeh! maybe the problem is on my end with Vista I'm beggening to think it's my Ram.

Hopefuly the guy at UA did'nt know what he was talking about. By now I
would think UA Would at least have drivers for XP64 and beta drivers for Vista.

The same old story, same old conversation. Still necessary though I guess.

Dos > Win 3.1 > Win 95 > WIN NT or Win 98 > Win ME (IDIOTS) or

WIN XP > Win Vista > Win Gazortnplatt > ???????? Microsoft improves again and ruins everything again at the same time.

Intel bringeth, Microsoft taketh away.

Yeah but now you get to see your ALT-TAB stuff in 3d. Isn't that gonna liven up your workflow? ;)

Actually, at a glance Vista looks like a vast UI improvment. As long as it can be streamlined, and doesn't do so many of the microsoftian anti-intuitive stuff of the past.

I don't understand you guys. You want a small company to jump into every new technology before it has even proved to be working. That means you think they will embed every new thing an OS starts, change whenever the new OS changes (early flaws) and adapt to every change made before he new OS has grown mature. they will need a complete new staff to cope with that...
