Dual 867/Motu 896/UAD-1/DP4 System freezes. HELP!

Hi,

I have just installed my system in my new studio and I'm having some problems.

I updated all the software before I moved my system. I now have: Panther 10.3.4, UAD 3.5.2, DP 4.12 and Firewire 1.09.

What happens is that the Mac freezes every 10 minutes or so. With no more than three tracks playing, that colourful little wheel turns up and everything stops.

I have not used this system a lot and I'm not that familiar with recording to a computer. I was hoping that someone at this forum could help.

I'm not saying that it's the UAD-1 card that causes this problem. I really don't know what does.

My mac is a G4 dual 867 with 512MB of RAM.

Thanks in advance.

not sure if it helps, but i get some problems between my 896HD and my UAD-1 every once in a great while. try reinstalling your firewire drivers, delete everything on your system drive that has anything to do with MOTU firewire and reinstall from the ground up. if you have the v1.07 drivers, try using those first before installing the 1.09 drivers.

You dont have enuff memory for one. Motu recommends at least 1 gig of memory to run DP4

Thanks,

Ordered more RAM yesterday. Installed Macaroni today. I'll see what happens when I get that RAM-chip.

Wow!!

I have the same computer and use DP4 and I too get crashes all the time.
(OS 10.3.5)

I have 2 Gb RAM in mine though. No 896, internal audio for now (yeah, I know..I'm poor, ok?!)

You should definitely get more RAM, whenever you get too many spinning beachballs.
It's also a good idea to disable journaling in your recording drives (keep system drive journaled!) and do a repair of permissions.
Also, run the maintenance tasks manually using the terminal window.
These are the commands:
For daily= sudo periodic daily
For weekly= sudo periodic weekly
For monthly= sudo periodic monthly

The terminal is in the utilities forlder, launch and type.
It is also a good idea to disable all the energy saver functions and as many options as possible. (ie. dock animations, etc)

Good luck and please write to MOTU with your predicament.
I've been e-mailing them non-stop.

A million apologies (not three!!) for the repeated posts.
I hit the button 3 times while waiting to load page..D'oh!!

I encourage everyone to e-mail MOTU with their experiences, having to install un-install drivers, interfaces freezing, etc does not sound good.

But it will improve if we communicate!! (unlimited sends per channel and delay comp. please!!...)

If you're not subscribed to the Motu-mac list, you should be. Not so much for the UAD stuff, but for the DP4/OSX discussions.

motu-mac@yahoogroups.com

You can go to Yahoo and sign up from there (Yahoo Groups?).

Howdy;

What's new with this particular configuration? Everything running well?
I ended up buying an 896HD and things have improved with every update.

Cheers.
