DUB - best UAD plugins?

OK - sorry to start another newbie thread... I've just ordered my UAD-1e and I still can't work out which plugins to go for... I guess I should just wait until it arrives and try the demos - but work is boring me and I'm excited!

I make spacey atmospheric dub and I'm badly in need of some vintage character (Vintage Warmer doesn't really do it for me)... obviously BASS is most important. The bottom end is usually pretty synthetic with the kick punching through the (sub) bass - I usually have the kick and bass on a separate bus and squeeze 'em (although sometimes I put a compressor on the bass and sidechain it to the kick) - any recommendations on which compressor and eq to go for?

Reverb is also important (der) - I currently use the IK CSR bundle and Reaktor's Spacemaster 2. I'll be sticking with the CSR for tight room and plate verbs - but I need something new for bigger verbs - would it be worth getting Dreamverb? Is there much of a difference between Dreamverb and Realverb Pro? (this is until I can afford Alitverb, of course! - which will be about 5 years at this rate...)

Finally - is the UAD Space Echo worth it? it looks awesome, but I already have several tape/analogue delay emulations (Audiodamage Dub Station and some Reaktor-based ones) and cash is tight.

thanks!

Spacemaster is the best reverb I've found for those big Universe type effects that have a lot of colour and depth with the extra nice wobble. If you have the CSR stuff I think you're pretty covered for 'verbs - I don't think that you'll be that excited by Dreamverb, and if you do get to use it, it'll probably be for more realistic spaces rather than effect type settings.

Wobble - that's it. The Spacemaster can smear sound in a spacey way, whereas Dreamverb just makes spaces.

The same with Altiverb, actually.

But how could you not consider the Space Echo!!

Try the demo and prepare to be impressed!

I would choose the space echo for dub...It's pratical the most essential sound for dub. It really has a lot of that old tape delay funk going, and can really spice op anything you put through it.

Space Echo eats the Audio Damage Dub station (which I still really like) for breakfast!

I'd definitely at least try the plate 140 verb in depth if I were you. You may not buy it but for dub I would definitely consider it.

Agreed on the Space Echo, it's in a whole different class from everything else out there.

I use the Space Echo as a tape distortion unit. I have it set to no feedback and 100% wet, then overdrive the input for lo fi coolness :)

Gotta go with that Space Echo, just make sure you have a control surface to map all the knobs to for the most fun. Like Spacey says you can use it as a saturation effect too, or you can also choose the old tape formula and run it 100% wet for wow/flutter effects or bounce a few copies of a track like this for strange flanging.

You can also use instances just for the spring reverb, which sounds fantastic compared to most software spring emulations.

I concur, you definitely need the Space Echo; but you mentioned bass. The Helios Type 69 is the greatest bass boosting EQ in the world for dub. A must have.

holy shit! Last night I set the space echo up on a bus, echo off, reverb only, and sent a lot of snare, some hats and some other bits n pieces to it... amazing! Its already all over my latest track... and I haven't even played with the tape head settings yet!

I'll try the Helios demo too... cheers 1176...

Necho:

The space echo is an essential purchase!

Don't bother with dreamverb - get realverb instead.

Plate 140 is awesome, but it's a one-trick pony.

Also, get the cambridge EQ if you don't have it already - it's by far the most flexible of all the UAD EQs. It can also be used for filter FX, for example on your space echo return!

Yeah - got the Space Echo and I'm truly amazed!

I was VERY tempted by the cambridge EQ, but I already have the Sonalksis plugs (includes a great eq, kinda similar to the cambridge) and since I only have one card, I'd rather spend my DSP power (and cash) on plugs that add character (not on plugs similar to my native ones)... but in a perfect world, I'd get the lot, of course!

Dreamverb is the successor to Realverb room simulator. Plate 140 is an emulation of the EMT plate Reverb.
