Duende....Liquid Mix.....Where's that leave the UAD 1?

Is it just me or is the announcement of Duende and the Liquid mix making anybody else wonder if they're gonna keep shelling out for more UAD cards? Don't get me wrong, I love the UAD plug ins as much as everbody else but I've only got 1 card that I bought from a friend and my next purchase was gonna be an Ultra Pack. But .....bearing in mind the limitations of the card(power wise) and some exciting new product coming out, I'm starting to wonder who's gonna get my next grand or so. The neve thing is great but being able to run 8-10 eq's vs 32 channels of SSl or liquid mix..........Don't know man! I know it's all about the quality but damn! UAD really need to get a more powerful card out there asap.

Anybody else on the same page?

I'm on the fence about Duende, all that power will be nice but I'm personally doing just fine now with the UAD & Sonalksis plugs. I'm waiting to see what kinds of plug-in counts people are getting with the SSL 4000 Collection, too.

Liquid Mix is more appealing to me in that it's really bringing something new to the table. At the end of the day, I think a big part of the reason why things like Receptor & FX Teleport aren't more popular are because they don't bring anything new.

These announcements have definitely affected what i plan on purchasing for the studio. Or should I say UA's lack of news on any possible new products is affecting my choice. Been waiting to pick up some of the newer UAD plug ins, but I'm hesitant to spend any more money until I know that I'll be able to use them. Been itching to pull the trigger on a new laptop to cover all my music needs, and if UAD doesn't announce or release a firewire version soon, I fear that Duende may be in my future...

I love UAD plugs, they are all I use these days, but it makes no sense for me to keep (or should I say upgrade) my ancient Desktop PC around for just that purpose.

yeah, like most people, i've got my eyes on the Liquid Mix and Duende.

i've actually only got one UAD 1 card.. and heck, it's from the Mackie days.. but, really, i'm doing just fine with it. i've got nearly all the optional plugs and couldn't mix w/o my UAD...

i'm definitely interested in the SSL, but my Waves plug in (i have the C4) is always giving me authorization problems, so i'm afraid to get the waves SSL... so, the duende looks pretty sweet... but, so does the Liquid Mix... i'm a big fan of convolution.. i LOVE color tone pro... so maybe the Liquid Mix will be cool...

i'm just anxiously awaiting both of their releases so i can read the comparisons before i send Eric my next grand :)

Look for a review on Noisevault of the Liquid Mix (I am pretty sure this will happen) around release time. (End of April?)

I too am exited about the new stuff.

I own 2 uad's (with the vintage compressors and plate 140) and 2 powercores with VSS3 optional plug.

(I also bought the waves SSL 4000 plugs ( no authorisation problems)
and can easely run 25 G channel + 25 E channel and 3 bus compressors with a CPU load of 55% on a AMD 64 3200+)

I bought it all for 2100 euro (got some great deals) and I know I don't need anything for the next years to come (off course the neve 1073EQ) and can do big mixes with my system now....

I will probably buy the duende thing when I have the money to add the ssl 9k flavor, but it will be a luxary....

I think it depend on one's approach to costs and what you are eventually trying to achieve.

My dream studio is one in which I have enough CPU/DSP power to drop in any TOOL to complete a mix as I imagine it in my mind.

Now on the one hand UAD might appear limited in choice but currently pound for pound they are still the most cost effective combination of quality plug-in and DSP power.

New proprietry units may offer \"variety\" but at an additional cost of new license fees for plug-ins.

I suppose if one buys once and has no intention of upgrading or adding cards this reasoning is less important.
