I run a mostly virtual home studio. I don't have a mixing board in my signal path - just RME 9652 to Behringer converters to my Event TR6's. I also find that my mixes sound a bit harsh in the studio but not elsewhere. My mixes tend to lack bass in the real world. I'm reasonably confident that the room is not the problem - it's well-proportioned and well treated and I have huge bass traps. I think that the TR6's are probably just bassy and harsh, but I don't have a lot to compare them to.

My $1000 budget is already a stretch - it's just a home studio after all. But I do get plenty of use out of it. I do mostly trancy synth stuff. I think you get the picture.

i just love my bm5a monitors , i compared them to the adams passives and although the adams have the smoothest open sounding tweeters ive heard, i was looking for something with good low end punch

Consider Event ASP-8s. I can't say enough good things about them. You want low end? You'll never need a laxative if you get these things---the sound goes right into your guts.

yes ive thought about the asp-8s but the company has never answered my emails and three of the biggest music stores here in vancouver have droped them because of poor custumer support, lack of subly and parts issues

Thanks. I ended up with ASP8's. I auditioned Dynaudios and Adams and found that sounded too small for me. I'm very happy with the ASP8's.

Event's support does suck though - I emailed them twice and never got a response.

Also, how do I delete this poll? I can't believe how long it's been up!

I'm gonna add one last little tid bit on ASP-8s.

Sometimes I now think they're almost too much. (Can one be too rich?) They sound so HUGE in terms of sheer volume that I can never get the gain knob past like '2' before I feel like Marty McFly in 'Back To The Future'.

Still in love, BUT, if you have a small room they probably aren't the best choice. They're just too powerful.
