Equivalent of the UAFX pedals for bass?

Hey all, a bass player I work with is looking for a pedal that can do for him what the Ruby does for me on guitar—wants an amp in a stomp box, and simple but great sounding is more important to him than bells and whistles (i.e., he loves the UAFX approach of doing one amp really well rather than 50 of them so-so). There seem to be 1,001 choices out there, and we’re trying to figure out how to narrow his search.

He’s not particularly online (lol) so I said I would ask around. I believe his price range is in the same ballpark of the Ruby and its ilk. Any suggestions?

Hard to go wrong with the Sansamp. The Ampeg and Agular look nice too.

Cool—I thought the Sansamp might be a good option, but it’s been 20 years since I used any of their stuff so I didn’t know if it was still good 🤠. Glad to get confirmation.

It's pretty timeless, just make sure there is a return policy....just in case.

I forgot about the Ashdown. BTW, most of the plugs stink like skunks to me. The worst are these Genome ones. Strange, because for guitar, it's ruling my world right now. The Ampeg's UAD have are good, but I always kill the cabs. Too mushy and don't always stand out in mix to my ears.

I used to have a Sanamp, I liked it allot. But I hated it taking up real estate on my desk or the floor.

Sansamp have some newer models with expanded options - speaker sims and more fx etc
so more of the bass amp in a pedal format concept with those units
definitely worth checking out their current lineup to see what might appeal
I have two of their ParaDriver DI boxes - they are the same as the Sansamp bass driver with added features - more eq filters etc
they are very handy for everything

So true, I've used the UAD B-15N and it's kinda okay sort of, but no replacement for a real Portaflex or Ashdown tube amp into a Noble or REDD DI
My desk is already crying just thinking about that kinda setup :ROFLMAO: I need a new setup for that, I think I'll start a thread.

I have a sansamp RBI (rack) and it sounds great. I think they make a pedal equivalent

Line 6 released the Pod Go Express Bass today. It has a lot of bells and whistles but it's easy to use as a straight bass amp emulator. And for people who do want bells and whistles, the $180 price tag is worth it for the synth bass settings alone.

And I'll bet you just have them in stock ;)

Another vote for Origin Bassrig series. I have the fender bassman version, but the SVT one sounded great too! It was a tough choice.

I often use my Ruby for bass. Cab off. You have to know how to use the EQ properly though, which most people dont seem to with an AC30.

Have you considered the Opus from Two-Notes? It sounds really great: https://www.two-notes.com/fr/gamme-torpedo/opus/
