EX-1 Feature Request

A repost, since the old post seem to have gone missing...

Wouldn't it be great with a switch on the EX-1, to choose wether the EQ should on the complete signal, or only be used as sidechain EQ, so that the compressor triggers on the eq:ed signal, but processes the complete, un-eq:ed signal. That way, the EX-1 could be used for a lot of stuff like de-essing and so on.

Also, I don't think this would be that hard to implement, since it's \"just\" a routing question and the EQ and conpression algorithms are already in place.

what about a pre/post switch fot the eq?

Yea, that would be nice too, but that functionality you can still get by placing another EX-1 (of cambridge for that matter) after, but the sidechain-eq you can't get within the regular vst standard (since there is no real sidechain...)

I use Flstudio and it has the most useful plugin for expanding the concept of sidechaining. The Peak Controller. You can link the db output of any signal to modulate any parameter. Threshold, cutoff, whatever can be automated.
That being said, I have discovered a method that (IMO of course) is much more effective than linking a threshold cutoff. Find what freq the kick is peaking at and setup a steep q'd parametric cut on the bassline at that point. Have it set for no cut at rest, and hard cut when the kick is peaking. Of course it could sound un-natural on its own, but the kick covers that un-natural sounding equalization up.
This woks alot better than modulating the threshold of a compressor, because I dont believe a compressor is necessary on the output of, say my SE-1X. Usually.

I hesitate to tell people I use FLS as my DAW because they look down their noses at it. The amount of automation ability this thing has and the ease of setting it up blows everyone else out of the water.

If it does what you need it to, then there is nothing wrong with it.
