Want to be sure I’m approaching this the right way and would appreciate any sage advice from the experts in this forum.
What I’ve got (high level)
Apollo x6, Sphere DLX, UAD ultimate 12 plug-in bundle, Presonus rml32ai + cs18ai, StudioOne 6.5, maxed out Mac mini
Decided to start buying mics, but saw the Sphere DLX and how impressive the emulations are & dove into Apollo, love the Neve/other plugins
What (I think) my vision is
1. Found a great Marcus Huyskins video on aggregating two audio interfaces & can aggregate X6 & RML32a on Mac into one combo audio interface, not sure which should be primary (thoughts & why?). However, not sure aggregatIng does the trick; I believe any UA ‘Native’ plug-in I can use w/StudioOne & Presonus gear and add in the daw, but since the ‘Apollo‘ plugins require Apollo hardware for full capabilities, I assume I have to route through the UA Apollo x6 hardware.
2. Watched vids about pipeline xt & can loop out from RML32 to X6 (treating x6 like outboard gear) and loop back into RML32ai to track into StudioOne. This can work well for tracking mono/stereo tracks (but wouldn’t be able to do ie. all 8 tracks (kick, snare, etc) of Strike pro) unless summed to stereo as x6 only has 6 line ins, I wonder if I may be able to ‘route’ to virtual tracks (not sure if one can do 8 virtual or not with Apollo x6, but could be a solution for that need if an option). I think downside here is I’d have to apply pipeline to each track, I’d want to apply Apollo processing against, but that seems like a lot of extra work.
3. I wonder if skipping pipeline x6, and simply looping 1 (mono) or 2 (stereo) channels out of RML into X6 to apply processing, then return from S6 back to RML to essentially ‘print’ the tracks would be a much easier way avoiding all the extra steps with pipeline XT in option 2.
4. Can set StudioOne Audio Interface settings to ‘recording’ via Apollo x6, ‘playback’ via RML32, but don’t think that helps me with my above goal as all my instruments/mics connect through RML, which prompted idea #3
5. Get rid of rml32 and replace with 32in/16out from UA hardware instead, but all the other stuff works, so hate to replace if not required.
I’d appreciate any suggestions/advice from others who have faced a similar challenge or have any better ideas. Thank you in advance!

What (I think) my vision is
- Leverage RML32ai (32 in/16 out) that everything connects into (Alesis StrikePro & SR16, Line6, HP60, mics) + used for practice sessions
- Link in Apollo x6 to take advantage of Apollo plugins when tracking (individual tracks) recording through Apollo x6 effects
- i want to easily switch between instruments (reason for keeping RML in the equation) to track & route through Apollo in the best way
