Fabfilter Pro C - thoughts?

Just downloaded this Compressor... I think the interface is quite good. You get a live representation of the sound, GR etc all live and ongoing. Quite forward thinking way to do the interface.

But what about the sound? opinions?

Ex-forum member Living Sounds did a comparison with it, the Sonnox, and his hardware 1176LN recently. The Pro-C didn't hold up well, it sounded like every other crap native software compressor out there compared to the other two.

It's great. One of the best native compressors, and not worse than any given UAD1 compressor. In fact, if I could only have Pro-C or only the 33609, 1176, or LA2A. I'd probably choose Pro-C. It's just really versatile and extremely intuitive. It's on the clean side though, so if you're not into plugins that don't color the sound, it may not be for you.

I think it's excellent, but yes, it's clean, which makes it a great alternative to the UAD compressors, though.

would you say its cold? to my ears it doesn't sound warm

In all fairness, Living Sounds was trying to approximate settings by attack and release times, and yes, Pro-C does not sound like an 1176. BUT, it is not just some native crap compressor.

Eric, I would seriously recommend that you try it out yourself. It's definately its own beast and worth some time.

Also, yes it is a very clean plug-in and does not add what I'd call "warmth."

I tested it and it doesnt sound any good to me, at all.
The design is not that bad but ultimately it sounds kinda crap, like most native plugins out there.

My 2 cents..
