since upping to uad 4.0, i've had two different incidents in which the fairchild goes very weird on me. ..what happens is the audio passing thru it gets EXTREMEly distorted, only to be fixed by deleting the instance of the plug.

it seems that the malfunction has been preceded both times by horsing around with the order of the plugin chain on the particular track in question.

this is with digital performer 4.6
os 10.3.9

anybody else seeing this?

Check your input levels. Perhaps you are distorting the input stage of the Plugin. Also... How hot is your track??? If it is at or near zero distortion can easily occur. Remember they may be plugins but they work like REAL gear.

It has nothing to do with the input level on the plug.

even if it is at -20 the plug just screams!

Also the track ist not hot at all

The problem is v 4.0.

I have try it with 10.3.8 and it still distorts.
With 3.9 and 10.3.8 its perfect.

I have to test 3.9 with 10.3.9 also but I thing it will be just fine.

So v 4.0 needs a bug fix, I think

Hi Yiannis,
Is this happening everytime you load the plugin (like does it happen right away) or does it randomly happen? Could you save a session where this is happening and email it to me?

UAD 4.0, DP4.6, and OS X 10.3.9 here -- no distortion problems to report with Fairchild, either alone or with other plug-ins.

Kind regards.

Hmmm. Fairchild Mono component gets used without any problems in my setup from time to time. That's odd...

Kind regards.

hmm, anyone else having trouble with Fairchild Mono?

Note that Fairchild Mono is not the same as \"regular\" Fairchild on a mono track.

James, what's the difference?

The Fairchild Mono is a separate plugin which only has parameters for mono processing (so no LAT-VERT mode, nor the right channel controls or any of the stereo link controls). Back when it was going to be released, we were supposed to get separate graphics so it looked like a mono channel but that fell through and we had to ship it out with a modified version of the stereo UI (the right channel and LAT-VERT controls are there, but they don't move or do anything).

Basically the Mono one is there so there are less controls to have to automate or show up on a control surface. Also, when the plugin first came out, several VST hosts required separate mono only plugins for mono tracks (Logic for example was one) so it's also still there for backwards compatibility purposes. For the most part, using Fairchild on a mono track is the same as using Fairchild Mono on a mono track.

so there isn't any (even little) UAD-1's dsp/memory gain when using on a mono track Fairchild Mono plug-in vs. regular Fairchild ?

thanks

sh*t!

i just started getting the same evil thing happening (mega speaker destroying noise blast from out of nowhere) on an aux track with the plate140 and on an aux with a stereo fairchild

i got what seemed like the same thing once before - when dreamverb first came out. it was fixed when an update came out for it IIRC

im gonna remove the fairchild mono plug from the folder, hopefully it will work!

if any of you have session/project files where this is reproducing all the time, please email me directly as well so I can get details and possibly the project file to test on my machines here. Thanks.
