Fix this shitty Console App!!!

Hey UA,

Time for a reality check on your console app—it's a mess. The design is idiotic, and basic functions like saving, deleting, loading, renaming presets are a joke. Constant crashes when switching presets? Seriously?

I seriously question the intelligence behind these decisions. A console app for gear worth thousands shouldn't be this cheap and dysfunctional. Instead of bombarding us with promo emails, fix your console app first. It's long overdue.

Sort it out.

Console? Love it!
But I have also learnt to communicate in a civilised way, so it’s me maybe.

Seems like something I’m saying to myself when I’m pissed, which I’ve been with console. Last update fixed the « take forever to load » issue for me, but I kinda of agree it could be better but I guess there’s the physical limitation of what Apollo FPGA allows.
I’m sure the OP will cool down and get back later :)

I have no problems saving, loading, renaming or deleting presets. Maybe I got a good one?

Mate from fractal forum :)...plz tell me how you are renaming a channel preset on console ? :))) You cannot even click on a preset without loading it!!! and on top there is no rename or delete function. Plz try/check before responding to posts. thx

i am chill...i did this to get some attention...nothing too serious to be really this mad :) but anyone using console in a pro environment for drum tracking etc would understand it has serious issues, drawbacks.

i posted a very similar one some mounths ago, and you jumped on with similar response. Can you plz let me know your setup? If you are dealing with 2 channels, 1-2 to plugin/channel presets, i understand that you don't understand. Obviously you don't need to delete, rename presets etc! And you don't know these functions are missing and there are also some other issues.

And once again like that time...the fake anger is just for some attention...so console gets some attention from UA...it's far behind from where it should be....on this there is no need for a discussion.

I love the design of the Console app! I wish LUNA looked more like Console! (although LUNA needs to cram more things in the UA so might be tricky).
I have never ever had Console crash... 🤷‍♂️

My biggest problem is that now when LUNA handles most things I never get to spend any time with Console :(

Are you able to do it at the folder level in your OS (finder or file explorer, whichever you are using)? I probably don’t save console layouts as often so I haven’t had to organize them or rename, I just do a save as. But I’d imagine you can go to the presets folder and rename things, etc. I tend to like to manage files that way anyway rather than doing it from program interfaces, but that’s me and I understand that others have different preferences.

i dont experience any crashes whatsover,
knock on wood, knock knock

i have not an issue with loading (console) presets, i do exchange them all day long, i trigger them with my Streamdeck and it works (almost) flawlessly, sometimes it act weirds and some plugins says no DSP available, but then i load an empty preset and load the one again and it works fine.

but i agree, renaming channel presets is a PITA within console, also why is there no rename button but instead you need to use the MOVE button?
makes no sense to me

i started to manage these directly on the harddrive, because i was getting annoyed quickly too,
that works way better (for me) and console updates automatically

once you found out where those are stored you place an Alias somewhere and they become easily accessable.
in windows you just need to search for *.uadchannel and you will find the directory quite easily, i assume its similar on mac

i wish they would implement an "Drag & Drop" for channel presets, so that you can easily drag a channel preset into its console channel to load

"save as" function only exists for console sessions not for channel presets, another genius idea from UA :). I do it sometimes the sameway you describe but i record sometimes live 16 channels. and as the session is going i might need to resave, rename settings...and it is only time consuming and inconvenient...actually it is unprofessional and embarressing on UA's end.

use also my stream deck to change console sessions....the crashes i get are with channel presets....almost every other time if I load unload 4-5 plugins (including unison) on a track by changing presets....i get a crash. And this happens on multiple computers at the studio. (all mac, 1 an old macbook pro retina, 1 new mac studio m2)

That's my setup on one computer. 96kHz (44.1 before for years) via ADAT clock, master is an ASP880.
Bildschirmfoto 2024-01-16 um 21.26.08.png
2nd is another Mac (mini 2018) on Sonoma with an Apollo Twin/TB2.
3rd computer (old MBP) still on Mountain Lion with another Apollo Twin/TB2.

No crash at all. Never.
Save presets, save Console presets as (for working around non-existent rename)... works.
It would certainly be nice to have more comprehensive preset management in the console.
But that's small stuff that you can easily do in the Finder. I also work with aliases.

thx for sharing and responding...unfortunately i get crashes on multiple systems....and in my use case "moving, deleting, renaming, save as etc " functions for channel presets are not small stuff. time comsuming, very open to mistakes and not acceptable in a commercial studio.

there are days we go back and fort 3-4 songs, sessions in a day at the studio. different presets for different mics, vocals, guitars etc...need to change, rename, save on the fly as i am recording sometimes.

And as i mentioned before it is a different story if you are dealing with 1-2 preamps (twin) vs 12+ preamps plus 3-4 line/analog ins with each upto 5 plugins on a track (unison, 1176, LA2A, Pultech, Tape)

PM me so we can set up a Zoom. I'd like to see these things happen in real time and help if I can.

I do not see any of what you see, and it seems most other users do not as well.

Oh, I don’t use channel presets too often, I usually save as console sessions, but I don’t recall getting crashes either. Maybe it’s stream deck related? I don’t use my stream deck with console.

Fair enough. I set up a couple of presets early on that continue to evolve as my setup grows. I’ve had little problem thus far but the next time I’m in front of it I will explore your specific issues of renaming.

When I was using console, it worked great for presets as well.....if I'm following. LSS, I'm selling my Apollo so I can't advise :(

No, I track bands and individual artists.
But I almost always use complete customised console templates / presets for this, even if I only use i.e. 4 channels.
The Twins are only for other purposes, songwriting, editing etc. I use complete console presets for these too.
Just to clarify, this is probably of very little use to you.
Use your chance and get it right with Drew. I suspect that something is wrong with your software or system.
