Well I've been reading through this forum for ages and the gearslutz forum too. I had wanted to be able to choose either the UAD or the LiquidMix - but realise that this isn't possible. So I'm going to buy both - here is what and why I'll buy - hopefully this will help others (in Europe) come to a decison about whether they should buy both or just one of these DSPs.
O.k so obviously I'm buying the liquidmix but what UAD card should I buy?
Well I could wait for the new UAD 1e card with all of the plugins on and pay about 2000 euros estimated or I could get the big pack which in europe has a 750 dollar credit on it and which sells here for about 1000 euros. Or I could get the smaller UAD 1e pack with the 100 dollar credit and which costs 500 euros (I realise the cards are the same).
So anyhow I decided to buy the card with the 100 dollar credit. I figured that with the exchange rate at the moment between the dollar and euro the 500 euro extra I would pay for the expert pack is basically 700 dollars or so and about the same amount of money as the 750 dollar credit I would get if I bought the expert pack- so I wouldn't really gain any savings if I bought the expert pack in europe.
So I will get the smaller pack and then buy the Roland / Boss plugins from UAD website because the LM doesn't have anything like these. Then I will audition the other eq and compression plugins from UAD and see how they compare against the liquidmix.
I make electronic music and am really interested in the Precision limiter and multiband so I think I will buy those too as they are not on the liquidmix.
I think this is the best way to buy and the total cost of the LM and UAD card is 1100 euros and then I can buy the extra UAD plugins as needed.
Does anyone think that this is a bad idea? Am I missing out on anything here? Because of the euro / dollar exchange rate I wouldn't make any savings by buying the expert pack.
I'm really really excited about getting the UAD card as I've wanted it for ages - same too about the LM.
