Hey Hey!

In case you haven't heard, the new plugs are an LA-3A and a full Neve strip.

(for those particularly concerned about these things, the GUI is nice and bright...:)

And the remote pre will be out this month and it's knobs feel real nice. :)

They know nothing about a chainer...

Hey Hey!

So... I've got a nice pic of the New plugs. Can anyone help me with a place to upload it so I can link to it?

Hey Hey!

Ok...

So I actually spent considerable time with one of the guys from UA on the last night of the conference. Great people. Nice work, UA, on finding just really great people to represent you.

I didn't get a specific on the Monitor Master, although I got the idea it would cost about the same as the DCS Remote Pre.

I did ask more about the chainer and got a frank answer that it IS possible, but it for some reason doesn't seem to be on the radar.

I waited the whole weekend, holding off on asking the big question about new cards with more DSP. When I finally asked. The basic idea I got was that it wasn't far off. (Let the rumor mill begin!) (And let the groaning and complaining that it isn't good enough before it's even known what it is
begin!)

(The 88RS, by the way, should be about 8 per current UAD-1 card)

(It's amazing what beer and a nice warm hottub full of the girls from the Women's Audio Mission can accomplish :)

So, without further adieu. (Thanks to the Lincoln School 4th Grade Spelling Bee Champ c.1986... and runner up in the whole school... for the correct spelling of adieu.)

D'oh! While I typed this someone already found my pic and posted it!

Cool. You can back me on the 8 instance thing. Wish I'd known someone else was going --I could have been invited to the hot tub party :p

Also asked about the upcoming card. Was told nothing, but in a nice way.

I didn't think much of the remote. It's not UA pres, and the monitoring effects really aren't either.

I was actually kind of confused on what it's supposed to do.
They're saying the Pres are right up the alley of Grace and other transparent pres, actually a nice counterpoint to their usual color pres.

The really great thing, for your typical small DAW user, is the serious integration of sort of everything you need for a vocalist or other instrumentalist to do an overdub, with seperate knobs for each input (direct from the Pre), a stereo mix from the DAW, and reverb to mix into the phones.

Hey Hey!

Yeh, I really wish I had more time to plan my trip. I would have posted here to see if anyone else was going. I basically jumped in only a few days before the con.

Maybe we hung out anyway? Are you by chance Mr. three cards and a day job in secret Aerospace work? :)

The Hot Tub situation was hit and miss (insert all kinds of jokes here) but it really was a nice way to wind down at the end of the day (or the middle of the morning :) and afforded the opportunity for some cool conversations.

OH! And I am now the only "civilian" with my very own UA neon sign! :)

Sweet!

Hey Hey!

\"Cool. You can back me on the 8 instance thing.\"

My first response to \"the 8 instance thing\" was, \"What? Is this like an SE plug or something? I'd rather it be of better quality!\". Their response was that the more modern nature of the 88RS involved less nonlinearities (than say, a 1073) and therefore was easier to model with less dsp consumption. I think it's a legitmate point. I don't expect they've cut any corners here.

And Will Shanks, by the way... class act. Spent quite a bit of time talking with him and he's just the coolest.

I don't know if we met or not. I'm not the aerospace dude, but I am quite mysterious 8)

Don't know if you caught the Hotel Congress show or not, but I played guitar for Gina Noell--we were on right before Mitch Easter. I was actually just attending until they asked me to sub for the show (a week earlier!). So, all my pre conference time was learning and practicing.

Most of my time was in surround stuff and mastering (what I do).

Not sure the hot tub would have worked--since they're also known as "WAM", I probably would have thought you were tubbing with George Michael :D

Didn't catch up w/ Will, thought I met him at Namm a few years ago. Did spend time w/ Flip--another cool guy.

They're like really smart surfers, hahaha.

Hey Hey!

Yeh, then actually we did meet, briefly, at the bar just inside the Hotel Congress, after your set. (You were the guy with the Steinberger and the laptop, right?) I thought that was your wife singing.

I hit the Mastering Demo but skipped the Surround stuff. (Tough choices had to be made!)

As for George Michael in the tubb, it might as well have been! :)

I'm trying to figure out if Flip was the other UA guy I was talking to. I'm so bad with names, but he was cool too.

Next time (at AES or next year at whatever TapeOpCon becomes) we'll find a way to connect.

Hey Hey!

Actually, just a total joke. (although in every joke...)

But hey, I'd actually love to meet that guy and talk to him about his music... Just not in a public restroom, which is different from a private hot tub. :)

That be me. Her hubby is her producer, and he was in the audience. That sound you just heard was 1000 amp purists collectively gasping at the thought of someone performing w/ GuitarRig 2 :p

I'll plan a little better next time for more socializing.

Welllll that makes total sense to me now, I dig my 1073 and Pulteq but those old machines can sound a bit smeared & "woolly" sometimes, I would love something a bit more in-your-face/modern/aggresive sounding... Oh boy this smells so good!!!! Will it come out before my expiring coupon expires????

I need two more cards...

:D :D :D :D
