hi. im using cubase vst but considering shifting to protools later. i have vst versions of the ultra pak. my question is, do i need to purchase TDM versions of these plugs or will they provide the same plugs in TDM version free of charge? this will definitely affect my decision about migrating to PT later as i really don't wanna waste the investment on the ultra pak plus an extra UAD card. thanks.

Are you kidding or are you serious about this?
The only plug-ins that have TDM versions are:
1176SE
1176LN
LA-2A
Pultec EQP-1A
Cambridge EQ

They are not free.
At the moment you cannot purchase them from UA webstore and
the UA has stopped developing TDM versions of their plug-ins.
Besides that the TDM versions are not so efficient. Please check the charts
here:

If you migrate to PT you`ll have to use Fxpansion RTAS Adapter(free download from my.uaudio.com).
Please read the upcoming May issue of WebZine (20th of May ) for further info about this subject.

Yes, my understanding is that because of the relatively ancient design of the tdm dsps they could only port the smallest/lightest plugins to tdm.

You can use uad-1 with PT but only PT HD has plugin delay compensation, NOT PT LE. Don't ask me how they get away with that.

ah, ok so no TDM. :) im not very familiar on how PT HD works either but i like what i hear about its performance during mixing. ok, so i guess u guys answered my question. it is still possible to use the uad-1 on PT provided i use the adapter. thanks :) correct me if im wrong but when that time comes all i would need is a mother board that can accomodate all those cards ... (HD, 2 UAD-1's, 1 PCI Firewire).
