Fun For The Day: The One UA Plug You Regret Buying...

For -me- it's Helios. Yeah, it sounds cool on acoustic guitar, but truthfully, I bought it in the last flush of 'I'll buy anything UA makes sight unseen'. Now, I'm pickier... especially since my cards keep getting maxed out.

So... while we wait for UAD-2, I wonder if any of y'all... DESPITE a deep and abiding love for all things UAD, still, in the dark of night, allow yourself to admit that at least one of these precious pieces of software are not exactly as lovable as all the others.

Actually, that's why I didn't get either. I kept having this nagging feeling that the Pultec was still a sweeter sound. Both on top -and- on the low end.

And I -still- think it is. For all the talk about new plugs, I keep coming back to it. Just like the 1176.

I really like the Helios. I love the HF.

I also use the 1081 ( and even the 1073 ) a lot.

My least favorite UAD plugs are the realverb and the dreamverb. Don't use. Plate140 I still use though.

well - I can't get enough of the Space Echo... its the first UAD plug I bought and I use it constantly... aside from that, I've got LA2A, 1176 and 88RS and I don't regret any of them!

I can't believe the amount of people who regret buying the Space Echo... On all my recordings, in one way or another it's present. And it makes a difference

Now for the topic: I haven't used any of the plugs that came with the project pack.

Precision Multiband is the \"winner\" by a mile. Probably a good plug, but I don't need it and I don't use it, and I regret getting it.

Pultec Pro is second.

The Space Echo used to be up there, but now I use it all the time. I never use DreamVerb, but I used to use it alot, so I don't really regret getting it.

sometimes I do wonder if I would be better off by just going for Waves SSL instead 88rs (they basically do the same job) and just save my very precious UAD-DSP in favor of the \"flavor/color\" plugs like 1073/pultec. 88rs is light, but not that light especially if you want to use it like a console (accross the majority of tracks), with SSL I could do that and still have all the DSP to be used in real-time. But at the same time, I really hate the idea of WUP...and the ILOK seems to causes a lot of errors in my system.

For me, that's got nothing to do with it. Generally, I'm just not using that much for EQ. Both plugs are great EQ's, lately they just haven't been very useful.

DreamVerb. I never use it!

I haven't used the Space Echo yet, and I don't know if I ever will... kinda useless to me.

I never use the 1176SE.

I rarely ever use the PultecPro, but I love the Pultec.

I only use Cambridge for the high-pass filters. Soon I may never use it again.

I don't know why I paid for the Plate... I have ClassicVerb and the VSS3 for the powercore... Both absolutely KILL the UAD Plate! (esspecially the VSS3)

Plate 140. I bought by mistake, don´t ask how. I loath verbs most of the time this one gets the crown doe.

For me it's probably the Precision Multiband and the Precision EQ. I'm sure some people get use out of them, but with so many other good EQ and compression options, I never use them.
