G5 2x1.8 or G5 2x2 ?

:D Heya,
I'm a longtime UAD user and now I have to get a new mac. My Quicksilver G4/733 is too slow for other native stuff, but working very well with the UAD-1, which I really depend on in mixing.
I read something about the 'AMD-8131 PCI-X controller'-problems with PCI cards. Does the new 2x2 still have the AMD or not? Am I better of with a 2x1.8? It really only depends where the UAD is working better, as I also plan getting a 2nd one.

thanks a lot,
great board,

I had a correspondence with the incredibly friendly and helpful UA James recently, and the conclusions broadly were:

If you load the UAD1's heavily, e.g. 80% + you may be better with the DP1.8. It has a single PCI bus for its three PCI slots (no PCI-X)and no AMD 8131 issue. This seems to mean that you get more PC like behaviour: i.e you can run lots of smaller plug ins - EX1, Cambridge, 1176se etc... without the host processing load \"bug\" being an issue.

If you load the UAD1's less heavily - and/or use a lot of native stuff you would probably be better off with the 2.0 or 2.5.

Really, neither is ideal... but it seems UA are doing all they can to narrow the performance gap.

Cheers

Chris, thanks.

I think I'll go with the dual 1.8 then. Don't think it will make a big difference CPU-wise, the UAD/poco runs better and according to http://www.osxaudio.com it's extremly quiet! Wah, the Quicksilver drove me nuts with this broadband noise with humming on top ...
