G5 FAN NOISE PROB WHEN ASLEEP

MZ

New Member
Hello,

I have a G5 (1.8 single (v2), on OSX 10.4.7, I believe its the one that does not contain the AMD chip).

My mac was always super quiet when running and no different when asleep
but since I installed the card when I put it asleep the fans become super loud...Im running the UAD-1 software 4.3

I tried the unload/load driver thing as well but no luck....

Any ideas?

Thanks,
MZ.

My Mac never sleep after installed UAD-1.
If I tried it, Mac will be freezing sometimes.
So, I just don't use the sleep now.

After installing powercores and uad1, I have never used sleep mode again. Anyway, that doesn't really matter because my G5 needs only 35 seconds to start.

I just got a UAD-1 installed in my Dual 2.5 G5 and I'm experiencing the same problems. First of all, when I put it to sleep, the fans NEVER spin down (use to go completely silent in sleep mode before card installation). And just today I experienced the "air craft carrier" fan noise for the first time, and it scared the crap out of me!! That cant be good for the computer, right? Also, the computer sometimes even freezes while asleep and will not wake up!

Was anyone able to solve this problem, or is the only solution to always shut down the computer instead of putting it to sleep? Should I be concerned?

I haven't seen anyone solve this problem...
By the way, I had this problem with G5 dual 1.8GHz(non AMD controller)
and G5 dual 2.5 GHz(has AMD controller).

Just do shutdown if you leave from Mac.
It's not big deal, is it? :)

IMO this is not a problem at all but a feature. If you have some serious audio gear connected/installed into your computer, don't use sleep mode.

I have a 2.5 dual G5. I also experienced the fan noise when asleep. I read right in the Driver Utility that when powered on, the UAD will prevent your computer from going into \"deep sleep\".

I assume that's when the G5 wants to go into R.E.M. mode or something. But in my case, unloading the UAD-1 Driver Utility before puting my computer to sleep does work. I just have to remember loading it again when waking the computer to keep mixing.

I keep the Driver Utility at the dock next to the UAD-1 Meter. This way I can access it quickly anytime.
