G5/Logic 7 + UAD = Problems ??

I'm about to purchase a g5 dual 1.8ghz machine. I recently purchased Logic 7 and also just picked up a UAD-1..But judging by a quick scan on this board, it looks like I'm in for problems..
Does the UAD-1 not work to it's full potential with any G5s ?
I'm using a RME interface/card, and also will have a TC Poco installed on one of the slots.
What problems am I likely to have ?
Would I be better off with the single processor G5 to run all products smoothly ?? :?:

The only problems are Logic's lack of delay compensation on Auxes and Busses and the fact that UAD-1 presently cannot access as many of its plug-ins on a dual; G5 compared to a dual G4 because of the switch from PCI to PCIX slots. It is still great to have however as it sounds so good. AFAIK a dual processor is still going to be better than a single because it helps Logic so much more.

Some people have found out that if you add a uad1 with poco into a G5 DP1.8 revB, the poco won't work anymore. If you remove the uad1 or buy another one, it works.  :?

I also have this kind of machine with poco. I would buy a uad1, if I knew there were not problems.

Thanks for the helpful words..This all sounds potentially very worrying/frustrating...
I've got the firewire poco version which actually doesnt need a slot(As it's not card based..Can anyone tell me if having the G5 with a UAD installed iinternally in a slot, and a poco firewire externally will work with the dual 1.8 G5...??
And if anyone has anymore advice/info, it would be much appreciated..

The poco firewire should work ok with uad1 because the problem is in the boot section of the powercore pci. With uad1 installed, the poco will not power up every time. I'm not the best person to explain this because I don't have both cards. I'm just telling what I read from elsewhere. If someone has 2 poco's and 1 uad1, please tell us if it works then WITH the DP1.8 revB. :?

F5D,

I have a DP 1.8 rev.b and thanks for confirming this for me. I´ve been driving myself nuts over the poco boot problem. I have two uad-1 and one PoCo, and quite often the computer won´t find the PoCo after system bootup. I´m not that suprised to tell you the truth as the PoCo PCI hardware is pretty \"oldskool\". The UAD-1 cards have so far given me no grief. I suspect this might have to do with much \"newer technology\" aswell as UA´s superior drivers. :D

I want to rid myself of the PCI card and get a PoCo Firewire instead and then hopefuly fill the last slot with a UAD-1 card instead (so I´ll have 3 all together).

All the best!

I have two uad cards in a magma chassis, and
an RME HDSP card (for a Digiface) and a Powercore in my rev 1 Dual 2GHz G5. Works damn well as far as I'm concerned with Logic 7, except for these things: The known reduced performance of a UAD card on a G5 compared to a G4 (not crippling but a slight waste), Logic's lack of Full delay comp and finally - Waves plugs make it crash! Not a problem for this forum though eh?!

Ok, is there anybody who can succesfully run a poco pci/element with uad1 in a DP1.8 rev.B ? I would definitely want to buy a UAD1 too! The new plate and fairchild are very interesting.

Would it be possible that TC Electronic and Universal Audio could solve this problem (maybe together) because the poco stops working only when a UAD1 is inserted in a DP1.8 rev B. ?? James?

How low latency can you use with UAD1 & Logic7 & G5? How much does the UAD1 use the host CPUs? Is the latency fixed to 1024 samples with every UAD1 plugin in logic or is the latency exactly the same as the core audio latency? What is the lowest reasonable latency that the card wouldn't use too much host CPUs and it would still be possible to load the UAD1 \"full\" of plugins without clicks and pops?

Is this the same item ??

The Dual 1.8 I just bought today is marked M9454LL/A..Would you know if that would happen to be the same as M9454B/A
