G5 Magma, some more exaustive tests...

Ok...I've had the magma and 2 UAD running a couple days now, here's what I've discovered.

When I had the 2 cards inside the G5 I got about to 70% or so on the UAD meter. About 85 or a little more if I did the shut on and off a UAD meter trick.

With Magma I get to about 83%. My earlier claims of circa 90% were true but not in very realy world test, I just loaded an empty project with plugins. I got my 83% with a real world sort of project with a bunch of other plugins and about 22 tracks of audio and 3 or 4 powercore plugs running as well, powercore resides in the Magma chassis as well

Just wondering, I've got 1.5 gig of RAM. Do you think adding more will do anything to boost performance?

Adding more RAM shouldn't have any positive affects on your UAD-1 performance at this point. The key word is shouldn't :) One sure fire way to tell if you need more RAM is to open Activity Monitor (/Applications/Utilities) while you are doing your real world tests and look at the available RAM, it will be shown in green. Also look at the page file info, if you see numbers there in the 200,000 range, adding more RAM will help your system.

Thanks James, I'll take a look at the activity monitor. I think I spoke to you on the phone when calling UA tech support. You were really helpful and I think I speak for everyone here when I say that your presence on this forum is really appreciated.

Let me second that! My UAD bandwidth increased by 20% thanks to your help last week without having to buy a thing! I loved UA to begin with but this kind of attention just took "fanatic" to the next level!

Wish some other firms would take note. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! (cough-steinberg!-cough-cough.....:))

Yeah, I agree Pier. I see you lurking in that Nuendo forum! UA participation in this forum sets an example for other manufacturers to follow.
