Galaxy 74 - before or after OX stomp?

Will be taking delivery of a Galaxy 74 any day... any thoughts about using it before or after the room in the OX stomp? My instincts say it should be before so as to get a more authentic sound of an amp in the room. I guess as well it could go before Dream/Ruby too? Thanks for tips!

By default, I would use the Galaxy before the OX, at least when using the Room of the OX.
Of course, it can also make sense to do it the other way round. In the end, it's a question of what sounds best for you in each situation.
That's the beauty of these solutions.

Both:
- Before the OX if you want to emulate the fx insert of the amp
- After the OX if you want to use it as a studio mixing device
* also before the amp emulator to emulate the classic use

You must try them and see what works for you.

I really like the idea of going into it before the Dream and / Ruby. Just wonder how much of the sound of the galaxy will be coloured by the amps. Looking forward to exploring and yes no right or wrong.

EVH would use the Tape Echo before the amp. But all the rack guys of the 80s would mic their amps (likely with a bit of room) and then run through Delays and Verbs and Modulations. I like the 80s approach better, so Ox comes for me after Chorus and before Delay. (I do like room in my Delay, but not in my Chorus)

Roland's web section on the space echo has this: "Since the input level adjusts the dry signal as well as the effect, many guitarists through the years have used the Space Echo to push the front end of a tube amp to add an edge to their sound." So that's one sound. As you say I sense guitarists have grown to like cleaner delays after amps. Tape should be a bit grainy. It's great we have the option to put int infront of a UA amp and keep it in stereo. Kudos UA

Galaxy->Ruby/Dream->Ox delays will blend into the sound better but trails and reverb will be affected by distortion
Ruby/Dream->Galaxy->Ox a little less blend but no distortion concerns
Ruby/Dream->Ox->Galaxy least blend but a nice pure, unadulterated Space Echo sound

Done a few tests now and a few observations:

- if the galaxy (or any stereo fx) goes before OX stomp and OX stomp is providing speaker emulation, the mics need to be panned LR otherwise the repeats on the delay phase slightly and you loose any stereo width.

- that’s not a massive deal but maybe someone doesn’t want two slightly different mic’s sounds panned hard LR? In which case the Galaxy (or any other stereo fx) could go after the OX, or of course before the dream/Ruby etc.

- you could also use the speaker emulations in the dream/Ruby etc and then go to the galaxy and choose DI in the stomp and use that for compression EQ and room.
