try this:
copy your vocal track to another channel. heavily compress the new vocal track, i mean pumping, attackless -heavy! slap on a pultec, 12-16khz max boost.

compress your original track the way you're used to and set the level for the orig track in the mix.
NOW, slowly raise the fader on the havily compressed/eq'ed track until you get that \"shimmer\" on the vox.

works like a charm!

Forgive me for being out of line...

But I think any vocal EQ should be source related...not post related...

I would (and have) run through nearly every mic in the place to find the right sound without EQ...compression, yes, but EQ? Only when everything else has failed.

Try this: listen for your vocalist's main frequency, and find a mic that offsets that...for example, a really screetchy (?) voice may be better suited with an SM7, a soft voice with a rather hot LDC...etc.

Sorry if this os too OT...
