Graphic recommendation

Mobo = ASUS Commando.
PCI-e is my only option for graphics.
Must have Open GL 2
DirectX 9
So Matrox are out of the picture completely.

Tried ATI Sapphire Z1950, but it refuses to POST as soon as second screen is added. RMA that sucker, but will take 6 WEEKS to get my money back!

Any suggestions will be great.

Hi Neil,
don't know about Open GL2, but I've had nothing but good experience with any nVidia card I ever used myself and in other folks' PCs.
Drivers are top notch and image quality (@1280x1024 at least) is just as good as Matrox imho.
In my allround PC I'm using a silent MSI 7600GS, Asus makes a good one, too.
This card could handle most current games, too, if the owner had the time - I don't.
In my DAW however I have 2 cheapo 64MB 6200LEs for 3x19\" CRTs, silent, no heat, same 2D quality as the expensive cards, so what ?
A steal for 20 Euro apiece.
All you have to do is disable TurboCache with RivaTuner (free).
And then the driver provides several extremely useful window / desktop management tools I wouldn't want to miss. Only XP and XP64 though, Vista doesn't have the tools yet - shame !
Cheers,
Cooper

Appreciate the thoughts.
NVidia is looking good to me too - Matrox are a non starter because their cards are still built on DirectX 8.1 drivers, and that is unacceptable.
I could not care less about gaming - I have 2 DVI-D Single Link powered screens I need to use. All I need is stability, and Dual Head operation.

Hi Neil,
one of those perhaps ?

I'm using the predecessor, MSI 7600GS silent, which would serve you just as well imho, incl. dual DVI.
2D quality is identical afaik.
Heat is very manageable, both cards are rated @ approx. 40W max, and that's with heavy gaming.
In case heat is still a concern you could actually UNDERclock this card since it has tons more power than you need, but I haven't found a smaller one with dual DVIs.
Good luck, ymmv though

The Gigabyte tone def recommended is technically almost identical, a good card as well.
With all those modern cards, the heatsink might block a neighbour slot, check before buying. My 7600GS only needs 1 slot, don't know about the 8600s.
And don't even consider one with a fan.
Cheers,
Cooper

I just ordered the Gigabyte version of the NVidia 8600GT.
Was recommended this elsewhere too.

Should arrive Wednesday.....

yes my heat sink/fan does block the adjacent slot but it blows right out of the back instead of into the pc so that keeps the case cooler.
