Help! Cubase 4 crash with high pitched tones

Hi there,
Firstly my system:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2048MB RAM
OS: Windows XP
Interface: MOTU 828mkII Firewire
2x UAD1e cards
Running Cubase 4.

Basically whilst mixing using the UAD plugs my computer unexpectedly crashes in Cubase and some weird high pitched tones come out of my speakers. I'm not sure whether it's the UAD cards, the MOTU 828mkII or Cubase or a combination...
has anyone else experienced this?
thanks for your time

I have had this experience a few times. It is definitely to do with UAD-1 & Cubase 4 (happens in SX3 as well). Unfortunately i don't know what causes it but i haven't had too many of these crashes lately.

How are you running your : MOTU 828mkII Firewire?
Are you using a FW card or onboard?
Have you checked for up to date drivers?

thanks for your replies..
the MOTU is plugged into a firewire card in the back of my PC. All drivers for MOTU, Cubase and UAD are the latest.

@ bedhoe - did you do anything since that stopped it from crashing so often?

cheers

Actually i think i remember now. I had some IRQ issues. I noticed that my PCI-e graphics card was sharing IRC's with one of my UADs. So i set the graphics card to NOT be assigned IRC in the Bios. But this can vary some between systems.

I can still get these crashes but not very often anymore.

Do you get them constantly?

You can try swapping the physical cards around in to different PCI slots and see what happens.
