Help me build a new daw.

Hi I'm thinking about building a new daw, based around XP 64 (i'm hoping they fix the 2 G limit in 4.7). I have an old system, which just doesn't cut it IMO, so I'm converting that to be the family computer.

I have 2 Uad-1 pci cards, Rme 9632 pci, focusrite liquid mix and a 300G seagate sata disc, which I will use in my new setup. I will be getting an expert pak and a beginners pak, so 3 pci, and atleast two pcie slots will be needed, and then a slot for a video card. I will also add at least one more harddisc just for audio.

Everything will be based around Cubase 4.

So what should I get?

motherboard
Processor
Ram
Videocard (maybe dual monitor)
Anything ells?

Thank you in advance.

I would go for a core duo chip, I used to be an AMD boy, but the E6300 duo chip I use now totally eats the Amd for performance. I also fitted 800mhz ddr2 (4 gb's), and overclocked the E6300 from 1.86ghz to 2.83 ghz.

No problems whatsoever, and I've just installed a Zalman reserator 2 passive water cooled system. No noise and my cpu never goes above 47 degrees, and that's with cooling the graphics card (a hot X1950 pro), the Northbridge chip and tht cpu.

Would this be a good motherboard for uad-1 cards? I kind of like that it has 3 pci slots, so I can use my two pci Uad-1 cards and my RME 9632 card, and then get two PCIe cards, a vga card, and still have one more slot for a powercore card.

I was thinking about the E6600 dou chip.

I would first add a 2G Kingston valueram, and later (when 4.7 hopefully has fixed the 2G limit), then I would add three more, so I can have 8G.

The zalman seems mindbogeling. Is it noiseless as well, and have you opted for the psu system as well?

...Oh yeah... I have seen some kind of ram cool things... does that work?

I'm getting ready to build a DAW based on:

Tyan S2915 mobo
matched pair of Opteron 2220 Socket F CPU's
4G RAM
a bunch of fast SATA drives

This looks to be about the coolest mobo I've seen in a while. Lots of pipelines-PCIe, PCI-X and PCI and the \"word\" is that it will be compatible with the new AMD Barcelona quads. I'm waiting for a little more info before I take the leap...of course, the Barcelonas won't mean doodly squat if my DAW can't utilize dual 4 x cores (and Cubase 4.0.2 certainly won't, but I've seen a post or two over at the Nuendo forum that indicated this board was working fine with a pair of dual cores and that it was UAD-1 friendly. I figure I'll just pop the host card of my Magma that hosts my RME cards in one of the PCI-X slots and the host card for the Magma hosting the UAD-1 cards in the PCI slot and use PCIe for a firewire host card for a Duende box or whatever. This board has \"BIG\" bandwidth. It's prolly going to require an 800W PSU. I'll let you know if it starts melting a hole to the core of the earth or something.
