Hey dudes!
I need to mix/master 2 songs for a 7" record.
Should I just cut everything off at 60 or 80hz?
RMS levels?? Peak levels?
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks

nah, just don't go crazy on the low end and keep the low end mono. Be sure there are no unwanted subfreqs from instruments that don't need it (as in every mix).

aw; and don't try a loudness war with vinyl, try K-system metering

If you know where it will be replicated, they may have guidelines for the premasters.

Your account seems to be working okay now it looks like.

Don't mix/master it too hot
Don't mix/master it too bassy
Don't mix/master it too wide

PS: back in the day, they used to use the Fairchild compressor in Lat/Vert mode before cutting to vinyl.

Do yourself a favor -- Unless you're actually going to be cutting the disk yourself, leave it to the mastering guy. It has to go through him anyway. He's going to cut whatever is necessary.

-18dBRMS or lower is a nice place to be. Same thing as digital -- No peak-stop limiters and don't worry if the mix is \"too quiet\" -- Let him worry about it.

It's going straight to the plant. I guess they have someone on site cutting the lacquers? hmmm. :?
I obviously need to call the plant my customer plans on sending this to.
Thanks John, I was waiting for you to chime in.

Best advice I ever got for Mastering to Vinyl is a simple 2-step guide to the perfect master.
1 - Find someone who has cut lots & lots already
2 - Say \"Here you go - you do it\".

It's so different to digital - get too much energy in the top end and you'll burn out the cutter head.
Too much in the bass & you won't be able to cut it at all.
Too hot & the record won't track even if it can be cut.
