Hiss on \"s\" and \"t\" sounds when using RealVerb / DreamVerb

I am experiencing a hiss noise on every \"s\" or \"t\" sound when using RV/DV with vocals. Everytime the singer sings an \"s\" or \"t\", this sound dominates the whole reverb tail.
No other reverb plugin or hardware unit does this (except the reverb in the DSP-Factory).
Did anyone experience similar things with RV/DV? The fact is, that I like the sound of RV/DV very much, but this issue makes it almost unusable for me. I even tried to put a De-Esser in the aux-bus before RV/DV but this does not help very much unfortunately.

Unfortunately, Dreamverb and Realverb are not really great reverbs. One thing about the big lexicon engines is, that you can put a shaker through it, and get a realistic sound. In my opinion, this High-End (of the frequency range) behaviour is one of the marks of a great reverb.

Have you tried the spitfish De-Esser (digitalfishphones.com)?

With a lot of analyzing and testing I managed to simulate the EQ curve of a LXP-1 with the Dreamverb.
Of course it isn't a Lex sound!
But the overall character comes close to the orignial.
One useful trick is to cut everything above 12 kHz and to leave the low frequencies untouched except a slight cut around 150 Hz.
The main absorption material was \"Air\". Reverb tail density was also reduced a bit.
Together this gives a kind of warm reverb, which is typical for the Lex sound.
(but only a simulation)
I guess Dreamverb has much more potential but it requires a lot of time to get all parameters going hand in hand perfectly. :|

Hi Eurocide,
I've tried your suggestion but added a slight dip at 2 KHz to the EQ curve and changed the material from 100% \"Air\" to 80% \"Ideal Gas\" and 20% \"Air\". Setting the diffusion at about 70% and the reverb time at 2.0 secs I've got a really nice sounding reverb without any noticable unnatural artifacts in the reverb tail. Cool. Doing a 1:1 comparison with my favorite Lexicon impluses resulted in a highly competitive sound coming from DreamVerb!
We should add a space for UAD-Presets here!
As quite a lot people around here stated, RV/DV have some yet unleashed potential that might be hidden by the complicated user interface.
If anyone is interested, here's the preset:

slightly OT but I always wondered... why is it so difficult, in this day and age with all the processing power available, to equal or surpass the lexicon and the alikes? after all, isn't it just a matter of programming and algorithms, or do the great lexicons do it some other way? I'm not talking about convolution modeling either. enquiring minds want to know... :?

Thanks for the sharing!!!!!
I'll check them in the cd i'm mixing.
BTW i realy love dreamverb (and realverb) I realy like the sense of space on a vocal, realy 3 dimensional.
I'll try to put some presets on later (a few days) and when i've finished the album wich is heavy on UAD mabey a song.
Good luck

I created a little comparison between Dreamverb and a Lexicon 300 using the two new presets.

Since Eurocide's \"Large Room\" preset was made to sound like an LXP15, I also used a Large Room Preset (copied from a 480l ). That's the one with the drums.
The other one (Vocals) uses a Medium Hall (also a 480l preset).

In my opinion, the vocal reverb Havoc made comes surprisingly close, as far as density and spaciousness are concerned (also very low artefacts).

On the other hand, with the drums there is an obvious difference.

The files are in mp3-format, so people on a dial-up can listen to them, too (there's really no point in better quality, all the differences can be heard).

It's always: Dry - Lex300 - Dreamverb

Maybe you need to try more similar presets?

>>Maybe you need to try more similar presets?

well, in case of the vocals, it is already very similar (the 300s reverb tail is only slightly longer).

As for the 'large room' preset , Eurocide claimed it to be made to sound like a lexicon preset. However, I doubt there's any way to make Dreamverb sound alike with Drums.

Have you got any 'Lexicon'-presets for Dreamverb? It would be great to hear them!
