How Do You Set Up your Aux Tracks?

Revisiting my Luna Template and using the New Softube Console 1 Mk3 which can now control six sends per track.

So, I'm thinking about setting up six sends for each instrument track for my standard template so I stay in the zone with fingers on knobs on Console 1 and eyes off the screen while mixing.

I play/mix singer/songwriter and alt-rock, which typically has voice, rhythm and lead guitar, bass, keys (either piano, electric piano, organ or synth), and drum (Superior Drummer).

Do you have a set of Aux's for all of your tracks to glue together, or do you have a set for each instrument track or organize around a type - hall, room, delay times, etc.?

Any suggestions on how you organize/set up, including favorite UAD plugins for certain instruments, would be appreciated.

I know it's subjective - but I'm just looking for ideas while I retool.

For me, I can do any session with a 140 plate and Cooper Time Cube delay or EP34.

These are in my basic workflow. But I am an engineer and work with all live musicians so I obviously have different criteria.

Funny I end up doing the same partly because I use Apollo Central and 140 plate and delay are loaded in armed aux’s.

But I switched out cooper time cube and ep34 with the Korg as my go to delay. Just love that thing.

Wondering if you are concerned about gluing the tracks together with common two aux's? And have custom aux's for each instrument track might sound good individually but you lose cohesive sound mixed together?

For tracking in LUNA, these two get the job done.

Once I start mixing for real, I create and maintain separate and segregated effects per instrument or instrument group.

This might make me sound amateur, but I genuinely don't understand the purpose of auxes in the UAD/LUNA ecosystem. I wonder if I'm missing out on something special.

Yeah you are missing out on monitoring the two armed aux's real time when tracking. The two armed auxes go direct out to apollo outputs (monitors, headphone cues) and bypass the Luna mixer.
