How many plugs do you have installed, and how many do you actually use?

Again, I did a clean install a couple of month ago and AGAIN, I find myself with more that I really need. Pretty sure others are in this category. It's love/hate because so much good stuff, but then things become cluttered and so on.

I just renewed Spark and this time I installed everything just to go back and double check to see what I'll really use (I'm pretty much making a bunch of music again after lagging for a while) But then I just double up on things. Sometimes, I spend more time "comparing" something the UAD vs. Arturia "Rhodes" sounds instead of just laying down the damn track! UGGGG!

I cant be the only one, so what is your plug in conundrum or use?

I tend to create a master template for LOGIC with folders for drums, piano, synth and sends on each, then "unload" the synths so I can load template with 100 tracks in 5 seconds. I pre-set things like, oh, I really like the Alicia Keys piano. In a synths folder, I preset some things like Pigments, Syntronik, and Falcon. A kontakt folder has some of my own custom samples from my old vintage synth collection (sold to buy house). SSL channel strip on every channel. SSL bus. FX bus with UAD stuff like plate reverb, MXR flanger, SPL twintube, tape saturation. In process of redoing this now as it saves me a lot of time, by having some 'empty' ready to go tracks, but then bunch of preset tracks ready to go and just play, noodle, hit record, save all. Huge time saver vs "going on the hunt".

Answer is use the UAD Rhodes. Where do you think you are, exactly?

After my last clean install, I cut out well over 100 plugins, and now have only about 25 plugins that I use - a couple of my favorite eqs, couple of compressors, 5 reverbs (I had over 40 before), purestgain, yulean metering, acon deverberate, and couple of odds and ends. I also use a variety of custom templates for various types of projects that automatically load preset plugins. Really streamlined my workflow…

No idea but I recently uninstalled all my Arturia stuff. Not because I dont think they sound good but because I got overwhelmed with the amount of presets.

For music I’m probably using 10-15 plugins. All my tracks load with 6 bypassed that I engage as needed and then I sprinkle some others here and there. Granted, I’m committing to sounds on the way in so I’m doing very little processing in the daw.
