Hello! My name is Bryce Carter and I'm looking to incorporate my newly purchased Akai MPC2000XL into my studio set up. I have an Apollo Twin X QUAD that I am aware does not have MIDI I/O. I am also aware that some other options are to go stereo out of my MPC2000XL into the line inputs on my Apollo Twin X. Another option would be to go from the digital OUT of my MPC into the Optical IN on my Apollo. I am intrigued by this option because of sound replication but in order to take advantage of the capabilities of the MPC, I am looking to use the available 8 analog outputs on the back of the MPC.
Now, this leads me to think I will need an external 8 channel preamp. My mind currently sits at this: I really want to stay in the UAD product family and have been looking at the Apollo x8p for those 8 UNISON mic preamps so I can record the drum sounds/samples into the x8p. I only have 3 Thunderbolt ports on my new MacBook. I could daisy-chain the Twin X and the x8p but that leaves me stranded if I wanted to use my MPC2000XL as a MIDI controller. I suppose I could look into a MIDI to USB-C adapter that would plug straight into my MacBook from the MPC2000XL. However, I'm not sure if this is the route to go or if it's even possible. I could also get a different interface that is not from the UAD product family like the Focusrite Clarett 8pre that would allow me to connect my MPC2000XL via MIDI I/O and would also have 8 preamps in order for me to do mixing and processing that way. In that case, I would be running on the internal clock of the external ADAT (Focusrite...in this case).
If anybody has any direction or advice in this situation, it'd be really appreciated. With the Akai MPC2000XL being a vintage machine, it does make it confusing as to what is possible in these scenarios to work hand-in-hand with these incredibly powerful UAD interfaces.
Cheers!
