I bought a new computer. I still want to use my laptop and use the new computer - do I need to buy all the plugins again?

hi -

I have a mac laptop, just bout a studio m2.

I would like to take my laptop and my twin to band practice, but I'd like to now use the mac studio for my main recording device at home. Can I use the plug ins on both computers or do I need to buy a whole new set? I've been using UA for over 10 years, I have pretty much all the plug-ins, I don't want to re-buy them!

Your two friends and keys here are your Apollo and/or Satellite hardware for UAD plugins and iLok for the native plugins.
Use them on any computer…

Yeah, if you have a physical ilok, you can use them as much as you want. Now, if it's cloud, it's two computers. Absolutely no need to buy them again.

Since they have been using uad for over ten years I assume they have uad dsp... is it one device you will be moving between the two computers or you will buy another device? either way you can do on both either way.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I am using a software iLok, don't need more dongles. One of the reasons I left Cubase was dongles -

Are you saying that anyone with a UAD piece of hardware and my password(s) could just login as me and use the plug-ins?

I think it's two computers, Drew can give you the specific answer.

No... I can tell you my own experience..
If you have more than one (I think it is up to six) uad-2 or apollo devices, once you register them in the same system, they all can use the software you have 'bought'.

I know with regard to the native versions, with ilok hardware, I have them both on my mac and pc, since each comes with two activations.. not sure how it works for cloud or computer authorisation.

Thanks everyone. I'm not the sharpest tool in the box, but, from what I'm reading it sounds like there's still confusion. I tried to 'add' my new computer and it wanted to delete my existing computer. I have no clue how to do this...

Where are you trying to add your computer?

Have you downloaded and installed UAD software on your new computer?

No, for UAD DSP plugins, their authorizations follow the device. So you can just run the installer on both machines and carry it back and forth.

For native plugins, they're auth'ed by iLok. So you can either use USB iLok and carry it back and forth, or do what I do and have one auth on USB and the other on iLok Cloud (for native plugins you get 2 auths)

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Since native plugs have two licences, can you use iLok Cloud on both computers OR must it be Cloud on one and USB on the other?
