hey everyone,

first off, thanks to everyone who contributes around here. i've learned alot.

i was lucky enough to find an Asrock 865 mobo on ebay that people were raving about after i've fought for 1yr+with my temperamental A8V. i have 4 UA pcis.

my question: is it worth the money to go quad core? i just read where steinberg (i use Cubase 4 or csx3.11 when clients are around...) tells users to turn off multi-processing. i also read where the prices are about to drop from intel.

any help much appreciated!

My personal experience is that you should definitely fork out for a quad.

The ammount of power you get is just amazing.

For example: I am as i am typing this running 368 (!) stereo instances of the Waves SSL Master buss compressor (default plugin setting and latency of 1024). This is pretty sick.

Add a couple of UAD cards and i don't think you'll be lacking dsp power for a good while.

I bought the QX6700 because it was the first quad to come out but i do think that the QX6600 will do just fine and the price is almost half of the 6700.

I have NEVER run out of processing power since i got mine.

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor ( I hear the price of these will be cut in half, very soon)
- ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
(this thing has Firewire PCIe adapter issues) bummer :(

You've got your mobo.. so no biggy. :)

I did all the work myself...

You should be ok... just as long as you have a full size tower..
The 775 socket w/QUAD will require a heavy duty fan. The CPU fan's size usually posses the biggest problem.

@imdrecordings

Just to know... are you talking about an AsRock i865 PE MoBo with a QuadCore Cpu?

At the moment I have it working really good with a Core Duo E6600 and 4 PCI UADs, but I didn't know it can even support a Quad Core processor....

Would you confirm me that ?

Many thanks in advance!

Check the ASrock website......
I'm pretty sure they released QUAD drivers a couple months back.
Support info:
Pentium® 4 / Celeron® D, supporting Quad Core Kentsfield processors
- FSB 1066**/800/533 MHz
- Supports Hyper-Threading Technology
- Supports Untied Overclocking Technology
- Supports EM64T CPU
