Focusrite makes some great sounding products but thy also make some dogs. I will be curious to hear how this sounds.

\"I guess we need a newer, faster card now\"

Isn't that assuming the Focusrite unit does the same plugins, sounding nearly identical, etc?

In the same way we view hardware, more software color and flavor options the better. Nothing wrong with a rack of virtual plugins. I don't think many studios set their gear sights on having all Telektronics, or all Neumann, hoping that those would always compete head to head with Neve, API, Blue, or Brauner.

Bring it on - the more the merrier imho.

I don't think I got my point across very well with the title. I mean we need a faster card now because NEW buyers may be put off by the current cards performance in favour of the seemingly higher plugin count of the Focusrite.

I'm for as many 'quality' plugins as I can get my money to stretch too but when your starting out or looking to 'expand' a touch then your purchase will be tougher now for the wrong reasons. Lets say for arguments sake that the new Focusrite unit sounds good - same price as UAD-1 and its got a controller built on it...........

One card owners like myself may well stray-away from UA in favour of the new unit to complement instead of buying a second card and maybe a $250 delay

Also its not PCI which makes me think that the marketing etc will make out its future-proof not like current PCI DSP solutions etc etc.

I presume waiting to see is the obvious answer but it not just TC & Creamware now, other companies want some of the market.

kemo - I wasn't deriding your post, and I do see your point now. I wasn't thinking of new buyers that might just look at the feature, or plugin model lists and pick the one with the most, etc. However, that's a marketing issue, not card power. No one has run a Liquid Mix yet to say if it actually sounds good enough to compare.

I responded only because you aren't the only one that has said UA needs a bigger, faster card, in either PCIe or firewire format, but it usually seems to be a feature war, or \"keep up with the Joneses\" reference rather than taking into account actual product capabilities, quality and comparable per-plugin instance cost. Obviously there are a lot of misconceptions about UAD-1 power out there that are presumed without comparing apples to apples.

The controller does look cool if it works as advertised. And, if it works well on firewire...
