I used to love mixing... :| I still enjoy the occasional live-to-two track session... But I really just can't get into it (studio mixing) much anymore...

Unless it's \"old school\" stuff - Well-recorded, nice sounding - Those mixes where you pretty much put everything at unity and you're 85% there...

So much tweaking now... The last \"real\" mixing session I was involved in relied on drum replacement...

Drum replacement -

Replacing - the drums - that were originally recorded - with different sounds.

I know, I know - It's commonplace. Yeah, much of that kind of stuff is what probably pushed me over the edge.

What's the point of even having a drummer then? I can trigger samples with an MPD. Something seems wrong with that scenario John. Is it the drummers today or that the engineers dont know how to mic the kit? Maybe they're too lazy, to mix the damn track.

My feeling would truly be hurt if I found out Chimaira uses drum replacement.

That's what I mean. But with Drumagog and the likes out there (as cool and wonderful as it is) you can have a drummer with a crappy sounding kit and actually replace the kit with a better (or just completely different) sounding kit - one drum at a time. Keep the snare, keep the floor tom, replace the rest, swap out the hat...

Man... Just come in with a decent sounding kit and let's hit the RECORD button!

And if you want the kit \"...to sound like Lars - On the \"Black\" album...\" you should really tell the engineer that FIRST!!! \:D/ Geez! I could've had another kit in there in an hour for a lot less than what they spent in \"replacing\" those drums...
