I praise the EX1

The EX1(CS1) is really a wonderful gizmo. Especially (as it has often been said) on drums. Though I have been using lot's of things on kick snare and toms every now and then I come back to the EX1. It just works well!

I only wish it had a nice gate... since it is one of the better plugins for drums it would just be very nice.

It really is an under-rated little thing.

I never understood why the Cambridge is praised so much for it's 'beautiful warm sound' when the EX-1 is the same for at least 90%.....

Only the high end is a little different, rest is exactly the same! But still the EX-1 is 'just some plugin you get with every version of the UAD-card' to most people.

I am not willing to pay € 150,- for a nice graphical interface and some extra filtering functions and besides that EX-1 does exactly what I need, so I totally agree...the EX-1 is great!!

What's ERR-21?

The dreaded Error 21 is a bug with the uad and sonar which causes the computer to crash and requires reboot.

It's the reason I sold my uad.

Kind regards

Well...the UAD is rocksolid over here so it must be sumthing else. Your PC, Sonar...

Maybe you better should have sold Sonar 8)

Which is exactly what I thought Dave wrote....a bug between UAD-1 and Sonar!

Appreciate the info Dave, I didn't know that.
What causes this - is it the DirectX versions, or does Sonar support VST directly?

AFAIK, it only appears when VST versions are used in Sonar; DX seem to work fine, so Sonar users are pissed off with UA after they dropped DX support with the latest version.

FWIW, I don't think selling Sonar is a solution - I wouldn't even discuss it. What needs to be done is UA and Cakewalk sort this one out.

BTW, if you do a forum search for 'ERR=21', you'll find all the info you need.

Nasty.
UA should definitely sort that out. Double quick too, now that there is no DX version available.

Back to topic: I also find EX-1 and Cambridge similar in sound but I don't want to miss the high- and lowpass filter types of Cambridge anymore. They have become essential for me for tidying up a mix very quick.

Fellow fan of the EX-1 here. Great sounding clip cAPS. How did you employ EX-1?

Let me take this opportunity to send another request to UA. FREE THE EX-1 comp from the EQ. I like the EQ, but sometimes I want just the compressor, or vice-versa. These are bread and butter tools. The hogging of screen real-estate is a small bummer.

That's the thing, the best part of Cambridge is the filters! IMO, neither EQ section is particularly good when compared to what else is available today but Cambride's filter section is unparalleled. I sort of assumed cAPS was praising the EX-1 compressor more than the EQ.
