iLok Cloud service removed

Wow, great job UA!
You are now forcing customers to either use a SmartKEY or local authorization for their UADx licenses instead of letting the customers decide which licensing method fits their needs best. When using different machines, you now have to carry arround your SmartKEY (increasing the risk of loss and damage) or you have to activate locally on all machines (with the risk of loosing activations when your drives goes up in smoke and the inconvenience of not being able to deactivate from remote).
In fact that is a post sales removal of value we paid for and you even have the audacity to try to sell that as an improvement ("no longer reqire cloud Ilok").

But you are right! Any cloud base stuff is really outdated, getting LOCAL is the new hot sh*t......

Being a UA customer i'm meanwhile seriously concerned about my neck, as you just make me shake my head much too often....

Though ilok has given me grief on occation, I find it great. Nothing against the OP (I feel frustration) but these threads do seem to pop up regularly w/o the specific reason why this is an issue. I catch allot of flak for this, but I usually have the "voice of at least some" form of reason.

-IIRC, you can authorize locally up to 3 machines. If I'm right, surely you can accommedated? (EDIT, er, or is that just spark???)
-the "smart key" is imo the way to go. Clearly you are not in favor of this, see first point (if true)
-what's different about UAD vs. "joe shmoe" in this regard?

It would bettter help many understand if you were more specific in your flow and working conditions. I'm a simpleton, I work here on my desktop mac, the ipad/phone are NOT for music at all. If I'm wrong about something, please edumacate me.

I did not criticize iLok in any way. In fact it has become my favourite (or least hated :) ) copy protection system for plugins. With its three ways of activating licenses it fits any workflow i can think of. Further i DO have a SmartKEY which is my second choice when Cloud activation is not provided. I did not use local activations up to now, as they can easily be lost and any replacement is fully a the descretion of the license issuer.

When i bought my UADx plugins, iLok cloud was one of the provided licensing options and now they just decided to take that away, making me feel a bit like Lando ("I am altering the deal. Pray that i don't alter it any further").

With iLok cloud i could leave my SmartKEY where it usually is and use the second provided acticvation for a fully flexible and convenient cloud activation, to be used on any PC that has the iLok Manager and the plugins installed. Now they took that away and replaced it by a method i don't like to use out of the already explained reasons. The additional (3rd) activation they now provide does not compensate that (If you are forced to trade something in for something else you don't want, it doesn't help when you get more of what you don't want). I hope that makes it more understandable why i'm quite miffed about that move.

You mis-understand, I was simply offering you suggestions. Personally, just trying to be helpful since I've been through all of this a few times (and boy-howdy, they have changed quite a bit in just over 2 year ;) )

HEY! this is a UA user forum, not UA support. Maybe point your tirade at their support system on the UA website?
That wouldn't make any sense to me. I contact support when i have a technical problem or question they might be able to solve / answer. The guy who would process that ticket certainly wouldn't be able to make any changes to UA's new iLok policy. So what could i expect from opening such a ticket, except receiving some copy-paste standard text?
I'm aware of what this forum is mainly used for, but what exactly do you expect when reading threads in a forum called "Unrest Department". If one is not interested in the discontent of other UA users then why not just ignore that specific forum?

Post your dissatisfaction with the ilok thing in “feedback” via UA connect. They do keep a log of all of it.
Most folks hated the cloud activation. I was fine with it because my internet is super stable.

*I lost a computer (stolen actually) and I was able to deactivate any machine auth’d licenses via the ilok website. They weren’t uad licenses as this was several years ago.
