iLok duplicate licenses and license transfer question

I noticed in my iLok account, most (but not all) of my UADx plugins have two licenses entries, each with their own activation count (of either 1 or 0).

This might be because I purchased some of these plugins as DSP plugins, then I also bought a "Heritage Edition" x4 at a later date? I also bought and Ultimate 11 bundle with a free upgrade to Ultimate 12.

Anyways, I'm wondering if I were to sell my Apollo x4, which of the UADx plugins would I still own, and would that depend on whether I transferred all plugins to the new owner or not?

Also, if I bought the "Heritage Edition", does that mean when I sell it, the "Heritage" plugins go to the new owner, or only if I opt to transfer the plugins to them?

My understanding is that DSP plugin transfer upon sale of an Apollo is an all-or-nothing proposition. But I'm still confused as to what my standing would be with UADx given my licenses.

Thanks for any guidance. Not sure if I'll sell the Apollo or not, but I'm finding I'm rarely using DSP plugins.

According to UA’s transfer page, if you sell your Apollo, you get the option to transfer all plugins or nothing.

However, for UA, somehow “all plugins” does not mean “all plugins” but rather “all UAD-2 plugins and their UADx (native) versions if any.” Native-only plugins are non-transferable. You still keep them.

I learned this the hard way; I ended up losing some of the native plugins I have paid for after I transferred one of my Apollos to my second account.

UA’s information on the transfer page is still misleading even after I have brought the issue to their attention.

best to get with Support for the defintive answers.

But I can tell you HE plugins DO NOT transfer to the new owner unless you do all plugins.

For some reason UAD don’t allow iLok license transfers despite it being a legal requirement in EU law. I guess they’re just waiting for someone to challenge them or notice.

Legally, selling of a digital item is a requirement by law as far as my understanding, I don't see what the problem is, UA still gets a payment from the transfer don't they?

Yes it’s a legal requirement and has been enforced recently in the EU.

I can’t actually think of another company that refuses iLok transfers outside of EDU or bundle products. I’m sure eventually they’ll be made to once people become more aware

UA Support told me that if I transfer "All Plugins" when I sell my Apollo, this would include the native plugins. I'm not sure how it would be techically possible to reclaim UADx licenses from my iLok account though, so I'm a bit dubious.

I also still do not know why I have 2 distinct licenses for many UADx plugins in my iLok account. Hmm.

That is not what happened to me. My native-only plugins and Luna-only extensions were not transferred. When I contacted UA Support to remedy the situation, they told me native-only plugins are non-transferable.

Can anyone who has transferred their Apollo confirm their native-only plugins have been transferred?

Edit: I am US-based. I am not sure if this applies to EU residents.

Technically, you will be required to deactivate the licenses that are eligible for transfer in iLok. Otherwise the transfer will not go through. When you request transfer, UA will automatically rescind your licenses from your iLok account. Once this happens, you will not be able to reactivate them. New licenses will be deposited in the buyer’s account.

So if someone sells an Apollo and opts to transfer plugins (all or nothing I believe), all the DSP plugins get transferred to the new owner (obviously) as well as all UADx plugins that have a DSP counterpart, but plugins that only have native format such as Sound City Studios, Waterfall Speaker, and instrument plugins won't be transferred?

When you acquire a second license of a plugin you already own, UA will create a new system for you and deposit the duplicate plugin there. Check the “My plugins” page under “My Account” on UA website to see how many systems you have.

Please note this only applies to plugin acquisition via single plugin purchases and promotional hardware offers. It does not apply to bundle upgrades, account merges, or plugin transfers.

Yes. That is exactly what happened to me.

It applies to plugin transfers only if the buyer opts to add the transferred device to a different system than the one that has duplicate plugins.
