Is there a limit to how many ADAT Inputs I can have?

Hello all! Please forgive this question if it is rather basic, but ive had a hard time finding a clear cut answer. I currently have an Apollo X6 and a focusrite connected to the optical port which gives me 8 more inputs. I also have an older apollo twin and i am wondering if I can do the same thing? It would solely be for some additional channels to use for synths in my home setup, but I want to make sure it will work before i invest in another interface of channels.

Thanks!

Yes, I believe so. You should be able to test that out with a single ADAT expander in fact: configure the Apollo chain then try a test capture with the Focusrite attached to both units, live swapping the ADAT input from the rack to the desktop Apollo.

As long as they're both Thunderbolt Apollos you can use the ADAT inputs on each.

Yes you can, but why don't you use a thunderbolt cable to chain them up? That'll give you versatility.

but as far as ADAT ports: you can get another 8 ch interface attached on your 2nd ADAT port

Up to 8 ADAT ins per Apollo. Not sure if that's what you meant. Although rack Apollos have two ports they're only 8 channels.
