• Welcome to the General Discussion forum for UAD users!

Please note that this forum is user-run, although we're thrilled to have so much contribution from Drew, Will, and other UA folks!

Feel free to discuss both UAD and non-UAD related subjects!

    1) Please do not post technical issues here. Please use our UAD Support Forums instead.

    2) Please do not post complaints here. Use the Unrest Forum instead. They have no place in the the General Discussion forum.

Threads posted in the wrong forum will be moved, so if you don't see your thread here anymore, please look in the correct forum.

    Lastly, please be respectful.

Is there a technical reason we can't sidechain?

Just curious, and sorry if this has been discussed before, although a search here revealed little. Having key inputs would certainly make the comps and channelstrips more useful.

No, if you have Cubase 4.1 installed and use VST compliant plug-ins you can. Now that's the big problem, not everyone can use VST 3 yet (that includes me unfortunately).

Well, that's odd as I don't recall reading that UAD plugs were written to the VST3 spec. Also, from what I've read about VST3, it doesn't do much, if anything, more than what can be achieved with an AU plug in Logic. Am I missing something?

No, specifically the plugs would have to be written under the VST 3 SDK model in order to take advantage of the multichannel ASIO and key input functionality. Currently you can use the Cubase plug-ins to do that, which aren't too bad by all accounts I've heard.

Another thing, UA do try to emulate the original hardware as close as possible.

Have you tried using Reaper yet?

I do sound design and audio post. I have no intention of changing audio sequencers at this time, even to Nuendo. To be somewhat compatible with ALL the professional houses and scoring composers I work with, I need to stay with Pro Tools and Logic Pro, in some cases DP. So, with all due respect, I could really care less about VST. In fact, some of my mainstay plugs aren't even available as VST for Mac, eg Sony Oxford, which are fully sidechain capable btw in their AU, TDM and RTAS manifestations.

Right, and the Fairchild in particular is one where I'd like to see this happen the most. A key input would complete its emulation nicely.

Yep, PC software in the DAW field has had some sort of handicap when compared to the Macintosh side of things. I gather you use the real Pro Tools and not the LE version.

Also excuse my ignorance, I never read your footnote on your post about the Mac.
