Just bought and installed my UAD-1 Studio pak...............

and what a mess! Crackles and pops everywhere! I think I just wasted $900.

Along with a Mackie Onyx 1640 with firewire option into Cubase SX3 here are my pc specs:

Maybe try another PCI slot to make sure there isn't a conflict.

If it's still bad, you could also try Ghosting your system, wipe the HD, install JUST windows, Cubase, ASIO soundcard and UAD-1 and see what happens. Try an alternate PCI slot here too in your tests. If it's still bad, give UA tech support a call.

I had problems with my initial Studio Pak setup. After over 2 hours with UA tech support, we find out that it is actually my poor ASIO drivers on my soundcard. (Hoontech DSP24 Value).

I scrapped that card, bought an M-Audio 24/96, Asus A7n8X-E Deluxe, 2x512MB matched Corsair RAM modules, and an Asus Video Card.

It works great now. I suggest calling UA's Toll-Free Tech Support. They're very helpful, and will do their best to get your system up and running. I doubt very much that your UAD-1 is faulty, but even if it is, returns are simple with UA.

Called them.Very friendly support people at UA. The rep told me to swap slots and if that won't work to call them back.

Will try tonight.

Swapped slots and so far so good...........no crackles or pops.I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

a bit OT,

I had some problems with crackles and such the last week (it wasn't uad1's fault) and while hunting for the source of crackles I tried putting the uad in a few different pci slots.

what shook me is that if I put it in the slot bellow fw card, the graphics card refused to work. weird.
