LA3A: The famous “Bob Clearmountain” mod

Supposedly it is just a 75-cent modification – a different capacitor. Neil Dorfsman thinks that somehow makes it sound much better. Ed Evans, back at Power Station, came up with it.

Could anyone shed some light on this and if this mod was used to model the plug-in version?

The Clearmountain/Evans mod IS really simple, and basically lowers the threshold so that greater gain reduction range is possible. Judging by how hard the LA-3A plug can be slammed, I'd say it is in there.
