Latest UADx update: plugins missing and/or broken

The latest UADx update broke some plugins for me:
  • Massive Passive, both versions, got deleted (the x86_64-win folder that usually contains the .vst3 binary is not even present on the VST3 plugins folder anymore)
    Hit.
    • This plugin is still on version 1.0.0, so I don't understand why UA Connect would touch those folders.
  • Hitsville Reverb Chambers and Sound City Studios show "CONNECT SAMPLE DRIVE" on the bottom of the plugin GUI.

I have multiple folders related to UAD software symlinked to another drive. Yes, this has worked up until exactly now and I won't stop using symlinks. These are the folders I have symlinked somewhere else:
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Universal Audio
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
Nothing changed on my computer. I opened up UA Connect and updated. I use the Massive Passive daily at work; multiple projects that I work concurrently on have multiple instances of this plugin. I hope you can understand the severity of the issue.

Yes, I update all my software as soon as there's an update, and no, I won't change this behavior. I prefer reporting when there's an issue.

UA Connect.log does not show anyting suspicious, the tail of the file has this line:
[2023-12-29 02:55:18.283] [info] (gui) [useEffect] Change Header state from {"bannerState":6,"pluginsCount":1} to {"bannerState":0,"pluginsCount":0}

I couldn't find old UADx versions in the archive.

Is someone else dealing with issue currently?

I found the Massive Passive vst3 on a cache directory used by UA Connect:
C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Universal Audio\Temp\ua_cloud_helper\041f-f7a0-270f-6290\uaudio_manley_massive_passive\staging\uaudio_manley_massive_passive.lunacomponent\uaudio_manley_massive_passive.vst3\Contents

I copied this Contents directory and replaced C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\uaudio_manley_massive_passive.vst3\Contents and triggered a rescan on my DAW and the plugin appeared again. The same with the Mastering version - that also worked.

To me it seems as if UA Connect is failing to copy those folders correcly. It did not fail with any other plugin. I loaded all 40 UADx plugins and only these 3 (or 4) exhibit this issue.

It did not work with the other two plugins I mentioned on the OP, however.

Found more plugins having this issue:
  • Waterfall Rotary Speaker
  • Hitsville EQ (just the Mastering one)

A weird thought.

You mentioned that you had symlinked the files. If something is accessing (or has accessed) a file through a symlink and the file handle isn't released correctly, you can get into a situation where the file can't be replaced, or if it's deleted, a new one can't be copied over to the symlinked location due to conflicts.
