Listen to Her Heart

Cover of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Listen to Her Heart". I know I still hear some issues in here, I'm curious if they stand out to you or not. Definitely needs the piano at the end, but if you've heard this song a million times like me, you can imagine how great it would sound :).

I've always loved this song. Recorded with my Telecaster into Lion (with Max for the solo) for all guitars. I used Sound City Studios on the vocals and drums, even though it wasn't recorded there. Still sounds great IMO. Thanks for listening!

I like the vocals and guitars!!! The drums sound like there is too much reverb. It sounds more like a slap back delay to me.

Thanks! And you’re right, but I suspect it’s mostly my technique… keeping the right foot and left hand in sync, but the reverb/room probably does accentuate it. Yeah, let’s blame the reverb ;). I don’t usually do that quarter note bass drum with snare on 2&4 because of that, but tried it anyway. I was also trying to do that sort of shuffle he does on the 4 with the snare, but again a drier sound would have cleaned that up. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah...I get it. What I was hearing was probably a flam and not a slap back delay. I really do love the vocals and guitars!!! Happy holidays and keep making music!!! :giggle:

Nice playing and production work on a great song! I play this one quite a bit in our cover band and its a real crowd pleaser!
I wish I was more multi-talented (beyond guitar and bass). Nice use of Sound City plug in! Have you ever tried Nashville tuning (high stringing) your Telecaster? It would be an interesting addition to double the rhythm track with it tuned up an octave (sounds like a less muddy 12 string).
Great stuff here!

I haven't tried that, I have never even heard of that but a cool idea! I know TP was big on his Ricci 12 strings, I am not sure if he played it on this one, but probably not something I will ever own so this is a good thing to try. Thanks for listening and for the idea :)
