I bought the upgrade. Not sure I can discuss the reasons on here (though 6 billion people covered it for months)

Very handy new features.

I've got it - so far so good. I do so wish the audio I/o labels could use the driver supplied names the way Logic does.

Maybe try something new lol, though they did changed so many things in 12.
Yeah, it looks good. I just don't change my DAW unless something crucial is added, otherwise it's not worth breaking workflow over.

That's fair for sure, but you won't "break" workflow likely. They run side by side, DL it and give it a couple of weeks. If you don't like it, ditch it :)

I just ran into too many things I missed when I thought maybe it wasn't for me and went back to 11. Again, it's doesn't look like much at first, and the upgrade price really high, but if you demo it, you guys might be surprised. I was after missing too many new things.

Here's an interesting YT video:

12 Things About Live 12 (youtube.com)

Probably my favorite thing in this vid that was NOT obvious in the beta beginning is @ 6min. If you have suite, some M4L things are interesting but I still find M4L to be too fiddly personally.

Thanks. That's a good video. I didn't know Live 12 has a Euclidean Generator. Might upgrade just for that.

Also, if anyone demos it, make sure you watch the part on "roar". I didn't know you could do that and it's really quite creative.

Oh, and if anyone has suite, there are a couple of new packs that are kinda cool. I think it requires suite....might be wrong.

Live 12 I personally think it represents a trend that music technology companies are trying to grab users from all kinds of musical backgrounds. Even you don't have music theory background(just like me) you can hop in, using the existing & built in MIDI tools to easily get you around and started to create something. I had some classical piano education while I was a child but all I've learned is how to remember a song and replicate it in your hands instead of really leaned how to really learn to play piano, so I can't play any other scale apart from C major until now. Ableton has a MIDI tool called pitch, basically it moves the base note of a give scale to any note you desire, and you can start playing that scale using another scale you familiar with. Now, Ableton advanced it, further intriduced color assistant, randomization MIDI tools and so on. Everyone whether you have strong musical background or just a beginner could benifit from that. It's the technology that really breaks the boundary of creativity.

The biggest complaint during the beta, and I used to be in this category, was that the "simplicity" of Live had been lost. It took months to win me over. The new browser had people scratching their heads until everyone figured out that it's HIGHLY customizable and has some handy new features that once you get used to them, you wonder how you lived w/o them.

I forgot to say, the most disappointing thing for me is that though you can "save" return track presets now, they will only d/d to the track session. This is allegedly a known issue for some users. For me that would really be a boon, to be able to have different return tracks with different setups available at my fingertips. We'll see how that goes....but others "miraculously" have gotten it to work
