Play From Stop Location YAAAY
Yes! Much needed feature upgrade. Pause!

Now, to better understand what all has been added with 360 Link. I'm interested in things that can be done with an empty Link plugin. Color was mentioned, among other things. I don't think longer track names (longer than the 6 character MCU name) are something you can do with Link, but I'd be happy to be wrong about that.

Just tried 360 link in Luna and it's just great! As a beta tester for SSL I've been waiting for this for a good few months. Play from stop is most welcome. I think I'm finally all in with Luna.

Much appreciated.

What can you say about DAW (Luna, specifically) control with 360 Link? I'm not sure I fully understand how it works or what it can or can't do, but I've read that you can place an empty Link plugin in each channel, and then it can provide the "link" to allow control of various aspects of Luna with a UF8/UF1.

IOW, what new functionality or feedback can I expect with my UF8 and UF1, when using Link? I read about colors, for example. What will this now allow, that wasn't possible before?

I'm using it with SSL UF8/UF1 & UC1 and previous to 360 Link if I used a plugin that wasn't SSL's own Channel strip 2/4KB or 4KE it wouldn't appear in the 360 app or in the UF8 (in plugin mixer mode) unless I had one of the said SSL plugins instantiated (whether disabled or not) and it was just messy. That's the main benefit to me now in Luna (it was already working in Cubase, Studio One, etc).
I can now instantiate another channel strip like UAD SSL 4KE within 360 Link on a track without SSLs own strips and the 360 app just shows this fine.
I suppose the real benefit to me is I can work in the plugin mixer mode with a mix of 3rd party plugins and 360 doesn't care. The downside is if you add one of SSLs own plugins on that track or another 360 Link plugin as well, you end up with an additional channel(s) in the 360 app, etc which is confusing. These days I'm tending to use as few plugins as possible when mixing (trying to be more old school).
The colours were part of 360 1.7, visible only in plugin mixer mode.

To be clear, the following blurb below is what I was talking about. This blurb was listed as new functionality in 360 v1.7 on SSL's site.

  • Insert empty 360 Link plug-ins on every DAW track as a CPU-efficient way to enable VST3 DAW control (pan, fader, track colours, sends etc) for UC1/UF1/UF8. Compatible with VST3-based DAWs only.
I think I understand the things you mentioned in your reply, but it's the use of an empty Link plugin that I'm wondering about. I'm not sure I understand what the new functionality is, as stated in the blurb above.

I suppose it lets you use basic 360 mixer functionality without any plugins but to be honest I don't see the point of that for my use case.

I don't necessarily see the point either, but maybe I would if it seemed like more than what I'm thinking it is. It doesn't sound like the sort of magic bullet I was hoping it might be though. I was hoping an empty Link plugin, instantiated on each channel in Luna, would allow for things like track color ID to be visible on the UF8 while still using the UF8 in MCU mode*.

*I don't own a UC1, so I don't really care about the plugin control aspects of Link. Also, I'm using the UF8 in MCU mode, so it probably would be a deal breaker if I were forced to use 360 mode to do any of this stuff with the Link plugin.
