LUNA Update 1.5.3 has made the Render way worse for me

So i opened LUNA just now and got the update notification. Was excited to see the "improved" section below. However, after installing the update, the same session that was going 70-80% in Render right the before update is now running at >100% and I can't even play it. Hopefully, I can revert it to the older version.

Version 1.5.3
January 17, 2024

Improved
  • Large LUNA sessions now use significantly less RAM
Fixed
  • Resolved an issue that prevented full screen mode from filling the entire screen
  • Resolved group-related issues that could occur when adjusting LUNA Extension controls
  • Resolved an issue which could cause loop recorded files to appear offline after using the Abort Recording feature
  • Resolved an issue that caused automation edits to be undone when some third-party Audio Units plug-ins were instantiated in a session
  • Resolved an issue that prevented audio from passing on tracks in ARM mode if there was a deactivated and soloed track in the session

Hello, has anyone else updated?

Update has not appeared in my UA Connect yet. I usually will update LUNA as it happens, but sounds like caution may be in order...

Sounds like you are using more RAM now, not less. D’oh!

I went back to the older version. Let's see if others who have updated see any difference. I also restarted my computer after the revert. The render is now back at 70-80% but not sure if it's the version or the restart of the computer. So would be good for others to confirm to ensure mine is not isolated (and something to do with my computer).

Trying it now. Saved off 1.5.2 just in case. FYI, as far as I understood from Drew, you can keep multiple versions of LUNA active. Before updating, just rename the app in the applications folder to whatever you want (e.g. "LUNA 1.5.2.app"). UA Connect will then just install the new version as a new install vs. an update.

I can't really see an improvement in the render meter with the current session I'm working on. Maybe there is some, hard to tell. I have a few healthy VIs in there.

But I can't really see a negative change in performance either. I'm on an M1 MacBook Air with 16 GB of RAM for now. Gonna need a new machine soon 'cause I can't run my large template. Good thing LUNA can deactivate tracks now.

I'm glad to see efforts (or at least documented efforts via release notes) towards performance efficiencies and optimization. I think this is LUNA's weakest point right now comparatively.

Thanks for the info, it's good to know that several versions of LUNA can coexist.

I updated and in principle I don't notice any improvements or worse.

I guess it depends on what constitutes a “large” Luna session.
I'm thinking 60 tracks with at least 5 VIs (not bounced out).

I just compared two "quite large" sessions, with between 5 and 10 VI's and lot's of tracks, plugins, extensions.
Session A:
1.5.2 : render 64% memory 37% dsp : 18%
1.5.3 : render 64% memory 32% dsp : 18%

Session B:
1.5.2 : render 54% memory 32% dsp : 74%
1.5.3 : render 54% memory 29% dsp : 74%

So, for me, everything works as intended... (y)
Next update, less render ?? 🙏
