Mastering and EQ

Hello,

I don't consider myself as a mastering expert ;) However, is there a chance that some of the more experienced (or wise) engineers could give me some advise on this field?
Whenever I \"master\" material (only demo material of course... I usually let professionals master my final mixes) I use the EQ to colour the final sound and I try to boost (or reduce) the bass area and also push the area above 12 kHz. But I'm totally unexperienced how to handle the midrange area and I'm sure that there could be some tricks. Thanks in advance for any answer!

No tricks except to do what sounds good. That will differ somewhat for just about every mix you get.

I'm no expert mastering engineer but I can caution against having \"go to\" EQ settings. Don't just always put the same curve on because you are used to it or it sounded better on some tracks. Treat each track with a veil of ignorance, forgetting about what may have worked on other songs in the past. I think the biggest part of EQing when mastering comes in finding an average EQ sound/curve between all the songs for an album, and correcting each one slightly to conform to this album sound.
