I don’t know what you guys are talking about. My UAD-1 cards have tubes in them, and I’ve replaced them twice. I actually upgraded the tubes with special ones from Austria. They’re expensive, but they’re worth it. When your plug-in capacity begins to get lower, it’s time to replace the tubes.

I checked the serial number of the tubes with my electron microscope yesterday and it was not 0401, but 0404. And today it's 0405. I think, there's some strange mutation going on- maybe too much radiation from the graphics card. I'm not gaming, but watch DVDs on my PC. Maybe it's as bad as gaming to the micro-tubes.

I started with one UAD-1 and a second one appeared not long after. To keep the problem from spreading, I had my microtubes tied. :p

if you use a rubber protection device that firmly covers the uad-1 this is far less likely of happening

I have one Mackie and one UA card. The UA card definitely sounds better so I have to jiggle the plugins to get the critical ones on the right card.

Handy hint - always let your UADs warm up for an hour or so before doing any critical mixing. This is why your mixes always sound better after working on them for a time rather than hearing them cold. Why isn't this sort of information in the FAQ?

My local UAD distributor recommended this tool for micro tube replacement (It is a high resolution Analytical Schottky Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (SESEM)):

It arrived yesterday and it was really helpfull. Tube replacement was trouble-free!

However, I have some additional questions:

What's the recommended bias for microtubes? Is it supposed to be identical for input and output tube?

Best regards ....

EDIT:

:x I've just found a much better tool; it is Focused Ion Beam System! I can't believe that distributor hasn't been able to recommend the best tool for a job! Shame on them ...

I tried that, but I found that my mixes seemed constricted. They started to lack feeling.

u also have to put the protection device on quickly and back into the slot as fast as possible or your uad-1 might lose power

The Soviet Microtubes have a more 'Organic' tone to them. Also, since the UAD-1 is a Class A based system you need to replace them every week.

Stay away from the Chinese Microtubes. Once you put them in they forget your plugin settings an hour later. It's sorta like Chinese food, once you eat it you are hungry again an hour or two afterwards.

The nuclear powered North Korean and Iranian tubes are unreliable and give your plugins a quickly-degrading 'cancer' effect. Remember to replace your tape on the Roland Space Echo every year.

I had mine uprated so they now go to 11!

I looked on my UAD1 card and cant see the tubes! U must mean the tubes are inside the card? I assumed I needed to \"crack open\" the card. What size hammer should I have used to get at the tubes? I assume all the little lines on the card is the tape used for the delay that must be changed every year. I will just try to use an ice pick and get ALL this OLD tape off the card. You didn't say what's the best tape to get for a replacement? Is super glue STILL the best way to get the new tape to stick to my UAD card?

What's the best way to get the card back together after I change the tubes? After striking it (Maybe 10 times) with my 3lb hammer, the card easily fell into 30 to 40 small pieces (AND the old tape came off the card much easier without the card interfering).

Where do I get the diagram for how the tape routs on the card? Or doesn't it really matter?

Thanks in advance!

PS. Since this little \"do it yourself\" project went so well on my 1st card, I think I will now start on my second card! Maybe I'll do my buddy's card for him also,,, I'll suprise him!

SEND ME YOUR CARDS! I WILL DO THE ABOVE PROCEDURE ON YOUR CARD TOO! AT NO CHARGE!

I sit a small ( very expensive ) antipodean short grained igneous rock on each of my UAD-1 cards.

Lightly killed, oven baked at zero degrees kelvin for 53 seconds and then individually ground to exactly match and damp the resonant plexitones of each card, the special rocks impart a wonderful opulent depth to the soundstage between 476Hz and 477Hz allowing the listener to fully absorb the intended mojo of the performers.

Highly Recommended!!! Only £45,000,000.07 ea. from http://www.snakeoilsupplies.co.uk

I'd say you're over cooking them, try 47 seconds. It's like stake, you don't want to ruin it!
