Mixing for Television

Hi All
I currently have a project to produce some music for a DVD. It is a business promo and will mainly be played on television sets and in small to medium size conference rooms.
I have never mixed for this type of set up before and am unsure how to go about it. I presume the conference rooms won't have a very fancy sound system. Does anyone have any mixing amd mastering tips? I was thinking that I'd mix in stereo but make sure that it sounds good in mono to. I was also going to keep the bass quite tame. Any thoughts out there? Another thing....I was searching through some drum loops and found that all the ones I like are in mono! In fact most of the drum loops I have are in mono! I don't use loops often at all hence it's the first time I have ever noticed this. Is this normal? It seems very strange to me.
thanks for any comments out there.
