Mixing two drummers / kits

Anyone have any experience mixing two kits / drummers?

Curious how one manages distinguishing the performances, getting plenty of stereo width, but not losing the center that kick and snare usually hold in a mix...

I like the way these mixes manage what I think are two separate drum kits / performances.

Seems like both kits in that one were panned normally (center kick/snare, panned OH's and toms)

Or do one kit to each side. There's no rules here, especially in a non traditional, two drummer scenario.

Good examples I'm aware of are late era Radiohead, The Oh Sees.

I've only once had two kits/drummers going. Everlong My Hero, IIRC, was what I kind of targeted.

Do you mean My Hero? The intro has two kits going at once

The most efficient ways to do it are one kit per side. I’ve done it in a handful of newer Silverstein songs, albeit with crunchy and distorty kits. A modern example of this is Underoath’s “Emergency Broadcast: The End Is Near”. There are two distinct drum performances in each ear.

They kind of do it in RHCP's Power of Equality ... the high pass lo-fi thing works pretty well panned left/right and the kick/snare heads to the middle. I must admit I only noticed this about 10 years ago!

I did the Allman Brothers a few times at JazzFest in NOLA years ago.

The two drummers thing was ALWAYS the biggest PITA.
